Job Overview
The Pediatric ECMO Specialist - Registered Nurse is responsible for managing and providing specialized care mainly to pediatric patients undergoing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). This role is vital in delivering high-quality nursing support during critical and complex procedures within the NICU or pediatric settings. The registered nurse will work night shifts and collaborate with a dedicated healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized nursing care to pediatric patients requiring ECMO support.
- Monitor and assess patient conditions, providing timely interventions and care adjustments as necessary.
- Assist and perform ECMO procedures, adhering to established protocols and best practices.
- Educate patients' families regarding ECMO processes and patient care management.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate and implement care plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessment, interventions, and outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and educational programs related to ECMO and nursing practices.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements within the ECMO unit.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- At least 2 years of prior ECMO Specialist experience in a pediatric or NICU setting.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Strong understanding of pediatric nursing practices and ECMO procedures.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Desired Experience
- Experience working with pediatric patients or NICU populations is essential.
- While preferred, applications from skilled Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) with ECMO experience will also be considered.
