Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and initiative-taking Staff  Accountant with strong sales tax experience to join our growing Finance team. This role plays a critical part in the timely preparation and maintenance of accurate sales and use tax filings for both the U.S. and Canada , ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions. The position also supports the month-end close process , including accruals and general accounting tasks. The ideal candidate is analytical, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare, file, and remit timely and accurate sales and use tax returns across multiple U.S. states and Canadian provinces.
• Assist with nexus determination to support continued business expansion.
• Reconcile sales tax liability and other general ledger accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Research and interpret sales tax regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Maintain and update tax rates in Avalara and related accounting/billing systems.
• Assist with managing sales tax audits and responding to tax authority inquiries.
• Support the preparation of financial statements and internal management reports.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure accurate tax treatment of company transactions.
• Contribute to month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement accounting and tax compliance best practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, with direct exposure to sales tax responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
• Experience with accounting and ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
• High attention to detail with strong organizational abilities.
• Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Avalara or similar tax automation platforms.
• Multi-state or e-commerce sales tax experience.
• Familiarity with Canadian tax regulations.
• Experience with SQL Server is a strong plus.

• Light travel may be required.
