Position Summary
The Church Chef / Food Service Manager supports the mission and ministry of The Church Without Walls by overseeing all aspects of food service, culinary operations, and hospitality. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for food preparation, menu planning, catering, event support, and Bistro operations. The Chef ensures meals are nutritious, high-quality, and served with excellence — reflecting the church’s commitment to service and care.
This position manages kitchen staff and volunteers, supervises food safety and sanitation, and maintains operational efficiency across all culinary functions, including providing personal chef services to the Senior Pastor.
Key Responsibilities
Food Service & Culinary Operations
- Oversee all food preparation, service, and presentation to maintain excellence and consistency across all campuses.
- Plan, develop, and implement menus for events, catering, and Bistro operations.
- Ensure meals meet nutritional and quality standards, with attention to taste, variety, and presentation.
- Supervise and, when necessary, participate in cooking meals requiring advanced preparation and technique.
- Coordinate food production and catering for church-wide events and special functions.
Operational Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, Bistro, and food service areas.
- Order and receive food and supplies according to established specifications.
- Monitor food and labor costs, ensuring responsible financial stewardship.
- Maintain accurate inventory and ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food items.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations at local, state, and federal levels.
- Conduct regular inspections and ensure proper maintenance of kitchen equipment and facilities.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers to ensure efficient operations and excellent service.
- Promote a positive and collaborative work environment that models TCWW’s values.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching for staff and volunteers.
- Foster a culture of hospitality, teamwork, and professionalism within the kitchen and dining teams.
Bistro & Customer Service
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the TCWW Bistro, ensuring an exceptional dining experience for guests.
- Develop and implement retail strategies that align with ministry goals and financial sustainability.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, customer service, and food quality.
- Supervise the use and maintenance of the Point of Sale (POS) system and ensure all sales are accurately recorded.
- Ensure timely deposits and reporting to the Finance Department.
Catering & Event Support
- Plan, organize, and execute food service for internal and external events, including church programs, conferences, and community outreach.
- Collaborate with ministry teams to design menus and service plans that meet event objectives and budgets.
- Coordinate logistics, staffing, and set-up/clean-up for catered events.
Administration & Reporting
- Prepare monthly reports on food service activities, expenditures, and inventory.
- Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for supplies and services.
- Support the development of annual food service budgets and monitor ongoing expenditures.
- Enforce safety protocols and training programs to ensure a safe working environment.
Personal Chef Responsibilities
- Provide meal preparation and service for the Senior Pastor as needed, ensuring quality, discretion, and nutritional excellence.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all personal chef assignments.
Qualifications
- A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and alignment with the mission of The Church Without Walls.
- Servant’s heart, strong leadership, and teachable spirit.
- Degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent professional experience (minimum of 5 years in food service or kitchen operations).
- Proven experience managing large-scale food production, catering, or restaurant operations.
- Knowledge of food safety, health, and sanitation regulations.
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management, cost control, and budgeting.
- Competent with Microsoft Office, POS systems, and general computer applications.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene, professionalism, and excellence.
