Phlebotomist Technician
**Core Duties**
- Ensure the safety of patients and staff through heightened safety awareness, adherence to proper infection control protocols, and the promotion of a clean and orderly laboratory environment. Identify, report, and rectify potential safety hazards promptly.
- Apply knowledge of established standards of care set forth by Military Treatment Facility (MTF) guidelines and relevant regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission (TJC), College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) pertaining to clinical and documentation protocols, safety, infection control, and performance improvement.
The Phlebotomist shall ensure compliance with established policies while providing consistent training and guidance to staff members.
- Conduct procedures in alignment with the operational capacity of the medical facility, adhering to standard operating instructions and utilizing appropriate equipment. Any deviations from approved practices must receive prior recommendation and approval from the laboratory's designated representative.
- Demonstrate initiative and responsibility while working collaboratively as part of a team. Effectively manage time, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks while exhibiting adaptability to changes in the work environment. The healthcare professional shall interact with patients with compassion and empathy, showing respect for cultural diversity, and tailoring communication to accommodate individual comprehension levels. Utilize professional telephone etiquette and engage in accurate verbal and written communication, employing the correct medical terminology essential for the reception, organization, prioritization, and transmission of information, thereby serving as a liaison between the laboratory and patients as well as medical staff members.
- Collect blood samples from patients. - Ensure that specimens are collected in accordance with the specified volume and type required for each laboratory test, including considerations for anticoagulant use as applicable. - Adhere to stringent patient identification protocols, particularly when engaging with patients on hospital floors.
**Work Schedule** The work schedule shall consist of Monday through Friday, from 0730 to 1630, inclusive of a one-hour uncompensated meal break.
**Minimum Qualifications**
* **Education:** A high school diploma or equivalent, along with the completion of a two-part phlebotomy program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an equivalent accredited phlebotomy training program. *
**Experience:** The candidate must have completed 40 hours of classroom training and 100 hours of clinical training, in addition to performing 100 successful venipunctures, including skin punctures.
The Phlebotomist must have completed an accredited phlebotomy course or equivalent on-the-job training and must hold phlebotomy certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or a recognized equivalent.
* **Life Support Certification:** The candidate must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC). * **Security:** The individual must demonstrate the ability to successfully pass a government background check and secure the necessary security clearance.
