Final Test / Field Service Engineer
Position summaryValco Instruments Co. Inc., has a new opportunity for a Final Test / Field Service Engineer with strong gas chromatograph experience to validate, install, and support high tech equipment in research labs, quality control labs, process control environments, and universities. Job focus will be on customer satisfaction by providing customers with high quality applied instrumentation and service. This is a full-time position with medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance plus a 401(k) retirement plan.
Essential functions
- Familiarize and train customers for basic operation of the equipment, both at the factory and at the customer facility
- Perform troubleshooting via remote diagnostic software to determine if an onsite visit is required
- Re-qualify the entire instrument after the repair by testing to validate and verify proper performance
- Organize and prioritize a schedule in accordance with customer requirements to determine needs for immediate attention, onsite visits, and remote assistance
- Coordinate travel arrangements
- Solve high impact problems while managing customer expectations
- Secure customer acceptance and sign-off on installation, training, and repair
- Perform preventive maintenance and refresher training classes at customer locations
- Coordinate with customers to provide remote support, phone support, and facility assessment for new installations
- Communicate and work closely with Valco marketing and technical support staff
- Perform other duties as required
Education, Skills, and Experience
- B.S. in electrical engineering, electronics, biotech, biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electromechanical, and pneumatic systems on gas chromatographs
- Proven knowledge of analog and digital electronics, chromatographic separation techniques, and chromatography data systems
- Strong technical skills involving analytical instrumentation
- Able to read schematics and P&IDs
- Excellent customer focus with ability to respond reliably to inquiries, and to communicate and interact with lab technicians, outside technical support, and R&D chemists
- Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on maintenance, installations, and selected repairs on analytical instruments
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills using MS Office, along with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in an easy to understand manner
- Valid drivers' license in good standing, issued by state of residence
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to multitask and work independently to prioritize, follow through, and meet deadlines within an entrepreneurial and customer-focused work environment
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time as required, both nationally and internationally
- May require lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, and squatting and may also involve working in dusty laboratory environments
