MAIN STREET COORDINATOR
The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. The MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE Main Street Coordinator include:
- Analyze, synthesize and develop revitalization strategies in consultation with the appropriate official and advisory bodies and coordinate their implementation to achieve project goals.
- To develop and administer a four-pronged work plan to meet goals; focused on Promotion, Design, Organization, and Economic Restructuring.
- Coordinating Main Street Program activities and managing administrative aspects for the City of Palestine.
- Developing appropriate downtown revitalization strategies within the context of historic preservation through awareness and education programs.
- Plan and execute one or more fundraiser(s) per year to support programmatic funding.
- Assisting PEDC with identifying opportunities for business retention and expansion and cross promotion of PEDC grants and programs that support economic development in the Main Street District.
- Fostering cooperation with businesses, volunteer organizations, and other community organizations.

Represents and promotes Palestine Main Street to the general public through promotional Planning and web/digital and print marketing under the direction of the ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR. In conjunction with the main street advisory board: · Develop appropriate downtown revitalization strategies.
· Promote ongoing public awareness of events, activities and education programs occurring in downtown.
· Encouraging a cooperative climate with other downtown or community organizations.
· Promoting open communication between the City of Palestine and downtown stakeholders.
· Strive to keep the program in a positive light by fostering understanding of the Main Street program, through communication with elected officials, the media, and the community.
· Coordinate and execute one or more engaging community event, serving as a fundraiser for the program.
· Coordinate and encourage participation in regular events, including but not limited to Saturdays on Main, Christmas on Main and the annual Parade of Lights.
Assisting investors and property owners with business and property improvement projects
· Maintains a record of current resources on property inventory and businesses operating within downtown, as well as a record of reinvestment in downtown.
· Communications regarding ongoing or planned construction projects that will affect the Main Street District.
· Providing contact information for statewide resources and enlisting professional consultation as appropriate.
Managing administrative aspects & Tracking progress of the program:
· Tracks progress of the four program areas, compiles data and submits all required program reports on or before their due dates.
· Ensures maintenance of files, records, policies, procedures, and other reference material important to the efficient operations of Palestine Main Street.
· Attends relevant training, workshops, and conferences to continue development of strategies which directly impact our community's specific needs.
· Assists Economic Development Director in the budget planning and preparation for Main Street each year, including proposals for future growth of the program.
· Maintains action plan and event materials for each event hosted by Palestine Main Street.
· Recruitment & coordination of volunteers to carry out the goals of the program.
· Coordinates activity of Main Street program committees.
· Record keeping and accounting.
· Maintains a calendar for reservations of Main Street District events.
· Provides excellent customer service and responds courteously and professionally by phone, mail, email, and in person to inquiries and other requests regarding events in a timely manner.
Other Important Job Functions
· Main Street Coordinator will be required to work outside the traditional work week/schedule at times.
· Must be able to maintain confidentiality in all assigned areas.
· Works in cooperation with other city departments as required by work plan and current projects.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· Associate degree or higher
· Two years previous experience involving Main Street duties, historic preservation, economic development or similar experience..
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and Federal statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, codes, City of Palestine policies and procedures and other potentially governing documents.
- Knowledge of the principles of files and records management and of modern office principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of the basic principles of bookkeeping/accounting.
- Skill in assessing information, situations and circumstances and prioritizing activities.
- Basic knowledge of historic building construction.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with all City employees, volunteers, vendors, contractors, public, the news media and others having interaction or business with the City of Palestine.
- Skill in compiling, developing, and presenting written reports, correspondence, and other work for internal and public distribution.
- Skill in communicating professionally and effectively
- Skill in operating a computer while utilizing a variety of software applications, including proficiency with social media and website maintenance.
- A strong background in Microsoft Office is required.
Certifications and Licenses required
· Must be willing and capable of completing all required courses and classes for certification requirements.
- This position requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver's license. Driver must maintain a clean driving record, i.e., must remain insurable under our company's liability insurance policy, use of own personal vehicle, and at times may be required to show proof of liability insurance.
Conditions of Employment
Mustpass a pre-employment drug screen and/or physical exam. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol testing throughout their employment.
Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
Must have the ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Perform essential functions such as sit, use hands to finger, feel to operate objects, tools, or controls.
Regular in-office attendance is required.
