Nursery Maintenance and Mechanic Helper Schertz

Mortellaro's Nursery LTD is a longstanding, family-owned wholesale plant supplier serving the state of Texas since 1956. Over the years, we have provided quality groundcovers, shrubs, and trees to landscapers and nurseries across the state. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a full time nursery maintenance and mechanic helper person to join our team with all tools provided by Mortellaro's Nursery.

Responsibilities:

1. Repairing and installing irrigation lines, underground pipes, fittings and valves,
2. Repairing greenhouses, tires, and nursery trailers,
3. Running electrical wiring, connecting conduits, and changing out switches and breakers,
4. Assisting with performing preventative and service repairs on small engines, tractors, pickups, semi-tractors, trailers, and other nursery equipment,
5. Safely and efficiently operating our machinery and shop equipment,
6. Loading and unloading materials and supplies on trailers and vehicles,
7. General Housekeeping, and
8. Other maintenance and mechanical related duties to be performed on a rotational basis with supervision.

Requirements:

1. Work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Depending on the seasonal workload, it may be necessary to work before and/or after the scheduled start and end of day times.
2. Perform manual labor while working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
3. Lift up to 50 pounds. Assistance will be provided for heavier or bulky items.
4. Stand for long periods of time and endure extensive walking.
5. Maintenance and mechanical tasks will require manually moving items, using a shovel for digging, pulling items by hand, raking/sweeping debris, and other tasks; all require an ability to bend, stoop and squat.
6. All applicants who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo and pass preemployment drug and alcohol testing.
7. Employees, thereafter, will under go and pass random drug and alcohol testing.

Beneficial Skills:

1. Experience with carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, mig welding, plasma cutter, and cutting torch preferred.
2. Bilingual is helpful but not required.
