TRC is seeking an Application Electrical Engineer to support a premier engineering and service partner for the North American power grid. This role bridges the gap between electrical products and their practical application in customer environments. The engineer will collaborate with sales, operations, and customers to ensure technical requirements are met and solutions are optimized. The role requires strong electrical engineering knowledge, problem-solving ability, and communication skills to support the design, adaptation, and application of electrical power distribution equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Design & Engineering: Design and engineer electrical systems and components to meet customer requirements while ensuring compliance with standards such as UL, ANSI, CE, and IEEE.
- Customer Support: Work directly with customers to understand needs, provide technical expertise, and assist sales teams with accurate proposals and quotations.
- Technical Analysis & Optimization: Review electrical schematics and specifications, evaluate new technologies and components, and optimize designs for performance, cost, and quality.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, sales, and operations teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve technical issues during system application or integration.
- Technical Communication: Present and explain technical concepts clearly to both customers and internal teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, utilities, or EPC environments involving electrical distribution systems
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, ANSI, IEEE (C37 series), NEMA, and UL standards (UL 891, UL 845, UL 1558)
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, and layout drawings
- Experience with LV/MV switchgear, switchboards, circuit breakers, MCCs, and power distribution systems
- Experience applying NEC, IEEE, and UL standards in equipment design and installation
- Ability to develop BOMs, configuration documentation, and preliminary design layouts
- Familiarity with CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, EPLAN) and power system modeling software (EasyPower, ETAP, SKM)
- Working knowledge of relay logic, PLC/HMI basics, and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus or IEC 61850
