Overview:
East West Bank is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Petroleum Engineer to join our National Energy Finance group. This role is pivotal in providing reservoir engineering expertise and technical insights to evaluate oil and gas assets for our energy lending team, focusing on both upstream and midstream portfolios. The Petroleum Engineer will play a crucial role in performing reserve evaluations, conducting risk assessments, and managing workflow internally for underwriting purposes.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in reservoir engineering, finance knowledge, reserve estimations, and upstream operations. This expertise is essential to assess the technical and economic viability of oil and gas opportunities and ensure compliance with lending policies and regulations. Candidates should have a comprehensive understanding of the oil and gas industry, financial models, and lending structures. Additionally, they must be adept at managing workflow and multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion while collaborating effectively with the energy team.
Responsibilities: - Technical Due Diligence & Evaluations: Perform technical due diligence on upstream and midstream oil and gas assets to support lending decisions. Understand and model oil and gas hedges into engineering. Conduct technical evaluations using ARIES, PHDWin, PowerBI, Excel, and Access, including PDP forecasts, type curves, capex tracking, and expense analysis.
- Performance Benchmarking & Reviews: Benchmark operational, production, and economic performance against prior borrowing base redeterminations. Provide technical input on borrowing base calculations, adjustments to current engineering on economics or production, and reserve category risk assessments (PDNP and PUD).
- Documentation & Communication: Prepare engineering files for virtual data rooms and act as the point of contact for agented deals. Lead technical assessments for new prospects, presenting critical risks and findings to the engineering and energy teams. Collaborate with relationship managers, portfolio managers, hedge desk, and analysts to assess asset value, risk, and potential upside for borrowers and prospects.
- Portfolio Management & Stress Testing: Assist with periodic portfolio and stress testing, addressing engineering questions from internal partners, regulators, and participant banks. Lead stress test and sensitivity reports, effectively communicating any areas of concern or risk to upper management.
- Continuous Improvement & Industry Engagement: Drive workflow improvements and continuous iterations to add value for the engineering and energy teams. Stay current on industry trends, regulatory developments, and commodity price dynamics. Manage communication with engineering software providers, oversee demos of new products, and stay updated with industry news and technology by attending conferences, webinars, and other educational events. Mentor team members and be a resource for bankers and upper management. Network with clients, bank engineers, and industry professionals to excel in the role.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering. Professional engineering license, master's degree, or MBA is a plus but not required.
- Proficient in ARIES, PHDWin, Enverus (DrillingInfo), PowerBI, and familiarity with ComboCurve is a plus.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to positively affect a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent understanding of upstream oil and gas assets, and the energy industry as a whole.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment is critical to succeeding in this role.
- Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to set priorities.
- Full understanding of petroleum engineering and general understanding of material finance-related concepts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- 5+ years working within an upstream energy finance group, A&D team, engineering consulting firm, investment bank, or reservoir engineering role conducting asset evaluations.
- Reserves Based Lending experience.
- Comfortable working on multiple deals and projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of discounted cash flow models and due diligence of individual variables such as capex, opex, discount rates, LOE, basis differential, price deck, rig schedules, type curve inputs, and economic limits.
- Familiarity with lending policies and regulations, and OCC lending guidance
Compensation: The base pay range for this position is USD $100,000.00/Yr. - USD $150,000.00/Yr. Exact offers will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
