Cost Analyst
Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Project Controls Analyst to support Engineering Project Managers overseeing complex capital programs valued at $500 million and above. This position will serve as a key financial and reporting partner, helping project teams monitor costs, maintain accurate forecasts, and communicate project performance. The ideal candidate is analytical, adaptable, and comfortable working with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced project environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide financial and project controls support throughout the lifecycle of major capital projects.
- Monitor budgets, commitments, actual spending, forecasts, accruals, and cash flow.
- Analyze the financial impact of scope adjustments, contract changes, cost escalation, contingency usage, trends, and fee structures.
- Review and process project approvals, invoice coding, retainage, reclassifications, and other cost-related transactions.
- Support contract and work authorization documentation while ensuring project records remain complete and accurate.
- Develop monthly forecasts, quarterly accruals, project performance metrics, and leadership reporting.
- Build and maintain Excel-based reports using pivot tables, lookup functions, data analysis, and large datasets.
- Partner with Project Managers, fellow analysts, and other internal teams to identify and resolve cost or reporting discrepancies.
- Respond to changing priorities and complete ad hoc analysis as project needs evolve.
Qualifications
- Ideally 5–10 years of experience in project controls, cost analysis, financial analysis, or a related position; candidates with 2–5 years of strong, directly relevant experience may also be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Construction Management, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience may be accepted.
- Advanced Excel capabilities, including pivot tables, lookup functions, data manipulation, and large-dataset reporting.
- Experience working with financial applications, cost-management tools, or project approval systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to question assumptions, identify concerns, and provide well-supported recommendations.
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
Preferred Experience
- Background supporting pipeline, transportation, energy, or other asset-intensive projects.
- Working knowledge of SAP.
- Experience with major capital programs involving joint ventures or multiple stakeholder groups.
Pay: $35 - $50 an hour
