Project Manager/Electrical Systems
Job Description
Job Description
TRCTalent, along with a growing engineering and electrical systems company that designs, builds, and delivers automation, instrumentation, and power solutions for major industrial and energy-sector clients currently seeks a Project Manager/Electrical Systems for an onsite role in Corpus Christi, TX .
They are seeking an accomplished Project Manager/Electrical Systems with approximately 15 years of related experience to oversee the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and delivery of modular electrical structures, including MCC buildings, medium voltage VFD enclosures, e-houses, and electrical distribution skids. This role will ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of each project from initial order entry and contract review through manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, and final shipment. The Project Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for customers, engineering, procurement, and shop floor manufacturing teams, driving cross-functional coordination and proactive risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
This is a highly technical, customer-facing position within an electrical systems integration environment. Candidates should have a strong command of electrical distribution systems and a demonstrated track record of delivering engineered-to-order capital equipment projects in industrial markets such as oil & gas, mining, water/wastewater, or datacenters.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Technical Leadership:
Manage end-to-end project lifecycle from contract review and project kickoff through manufacturing, inspection, shipment, and project closeout.
Review and interpret customer specifications, single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, scope-of-work documents, and purchase order terms to establish a clear project baseline.
Develop, issue, and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost tracking reports, and resource plans; update stakeholders on a regular cadence.
Coordinate across internal teams including electrical engineers, mechanical designers, procurement specialists, shop floor supervision, etc., to meet project milestones and quality requirements.
Manage customer-initiated change orders, Requests for Information (RFIs), and submittal packages; negotiate scope, schedule, and cost impacts with customers and internal stakeholders.
Review, approve for purchase, and track material procurement including milestones for long-lead items including power transformers, medium-voltage VFDs, switchgear, and specialty components; actively expedite vendors to protect the project schedule.
Conduct internal project review meetings and lead customer-facing milestone events including design reviews, submittal approvals, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
Identify, document, and proactively mitigate project risks; escalate critical path issues to management with recommended corrective actions.
Provide detailed review and final approval of internally developed engineering drawings, calculations, equipment documentation prior to release to customers and/or shop floor for fabrication or integration.
Ensure all deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards including NFPA 70 (NEC), UL 508A, UL 891, IEEE, NEMA ICS, and IEC requirements as specified by the customer.
Assist with shipping and logistics planning for oversized and heavy equipment (electrical skids, modular E-houses); coordinate rigging plans, transport permits, and carrier requirements with the logistics team.
Support the proposals and estimating team by providing project-specific technical clarifications, schedule input, and lessons-learned feedback during the bid phase.
Monitor job cost performance against budget; identify and communicate variances; collaborate with finance on project billings and cost-to-complete forecasts.
Maintain thorough project documentation including meeting minutes, action item logs, submittal registers, and change order files in the company ERP and document management systems.
Mentorship & Organizational Impact:
Mentor and guide junior project managers and coordinators as needed, sharing best practices in schedule management, customer communication, and technical problem-solving.
Contribute to the optimization and development of internal standards, templates, and best practices for modular and prefabricated design.
Support business development by contributing technical expertise to proposals and client discussions.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primary work location is an office environment near or within a manufacturing facility; regular presence on the production floor is required.
Occasional travel to customer sites for design reviews, factory acceptance tests, site surveys, or project kick-off meetings — estimated 10% travel depending on project portfolio.
Must be able to navigate manufacturing and construction environments safely, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) — hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar is preferred, but applicable electrical discipline industry experience is just as valuable.
Approximately 15 years of broad project management experience in the modular fabrication space with a focus on electrical distribution.
Highly knowledgeable of applicable codes and standards (NFPA, NEMA, API, UL, etc.).
Self-motivated with strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, technical, and documentation skills.
Preferred: Experience with BlueBeam Revu
Preferred: Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
Preferred: PMP Certification
