Field Application Engineer
Sales Support Manager In this role, you'll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact. The work model for the role is: remote (#Li-Remote) within the Houston, TX area - weekly office visits will be needed. In this role, you will be the technical lead at consulting engineer, end user, EPC and design build customers, ensuring ABB products and solutions achieve a preferred/ acceptable manufacturer status in project specifications. You will work closely with the local sales team and must be proficient applying MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers and arc flash mitigation technologies. Your role and responsibilities
- Technical & Customer Collaboration : Partner with consultants, end users, utilities, and EPCs to define project needs, provide design support, product selection, budgeting, and promote ABB solutions for specification inclusion.
- Solution Development & Expertise : Deliver comprehensive electrical solutions-including one-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specs-for LV/MV applications; serve as the local expert on key products like switchgear, transformers, UPS, and power monitoring systems.
- Thought Leadership & Enablement : Lead customer education through presentations, Lunch & Learns, and industry events; contribute to whitepapers and conferences; mentor Field Application Engineers and support internal technical development.
- Strategic Insight & Self-Leadership : Gather customer feedback to inform product strategy, conduct risk and financial analyses, and manage time effectively across multiple stakeholders while operating independently with a strong customer-focused mindset.
- Education & Experience : Bachelor's in engineering (preferably electrical) with 8+ years of experience in electrical distribution, or a Master's with 4+ years in the same field; PE certification preferred.
- Technical & Industry Knowledge : Background in field, plant, or design engineering for power systems in oil & gas, utilities, or industrial sectors; familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, and UL standards.
- Interpersonal & Communication Skills : Strong ability to collaborate across diverse teams, resolve technical issues, and communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.
- Professional Traits : Self-motivated, results-driven, adept at multitasking, and skilled in building relationships with engineering consultants and customers.
- Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
