Director of Social Services

The role of a Social Services Director is pivotal in shaping and overseeing comprehensive programs that provide essential support to various community populations. This position demands not only a broad understanding of social work principles but also the ability to lead a team effectively and cultivate collaborative relationships across different agencies. A Social Services Director serves as the cornerstone in ensuring that social services are delivered efficiently, ethically, and compassionately. The Social Services Director plays a crucial role in the planning, development, and management of programs that address the social, emotional, and economic needs of individuals and families.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and implement social service programs and policies.
  • Supervise and mentor social service staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with other agencies and organizations to provide comprehensive services.
  • Assess community needs and develop programs to meet those needs.
  • Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Provide direct services to clients in complex cases.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Conduct staff training and professional development activities.
  • Address and resolve client complaints and issues.
  • Facilitate community outreach and education initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records.
  • Advocate for social justice and policy changes at local, state, and national levels.
  • Assist in the development, administering, and coordinating of department policies and procedures
  • Participate in community planning related to the interest of the facility and the services and needs of the patients and family
  • Manages discharge planning; development and implementation of social care plans and patient programs
  • Supervises transportation to other facilities when necessary
  • Refer patient/families to appropriate social service agencies when the facility does not provide the services or needs of the patient
  • Provide information to patient/families as to medicare/medicaid, and other financial assistance programs available to the patient
  • Interpret the department's policies and procedures to employees, patients, visitor, government agencies, etc
  • Review and develop a plan of correction for social service deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such to the Administrator
  • Review department complaints and grievances from personnel and make written reports to the Administrator of action(s) taken
  • Attends regular treatment team meetings to provide social work perspectives to total case management of the patient by discussing progress notes charts and communicating any state or local agency legal requirement for case management with the interdisciplinary team
  • Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards

Requirements

Education and/or Licensure – Master’s degree in social work and Texas Licensed LMSW or LCSW required.

Experience – Three years’ experience in leading teams required. Five years’ experience in social services management. Skills in case management and discharge planning, time management, and crisis intervention common to acute psychotic as well as to non-violent crises intervention practice. Knowledge of acute psychological disorders; advanced principals of abnormal psychology as specifically applied to adults; familiarity with follow-up resource service available; skills in conducting marital and family group therapy.

Additional Requirements – Must possess or obtain a valid CPR certification and Deescalation training within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

· Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action

· Knowledge of resources in Texas to support patient discharge planning

· Knowledgeable of practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in the post-acute care facility

· Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department

· Perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: patient rights, and safety and sanitation

· Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.

· Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information

· Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures

· Ability to apply time management practices to prioritize, schedule and complete work effectively to comply with mandated policies and deadlines.

· Ability to work on multiple tasks or parts of tasks simultaneously to ensure timely completion of work activities.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

Perform the following with or without reasonable accommodations:

· Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips.

· Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly.

· Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 dB loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information orally and make fine discriminations in sound.

· Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Individual must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

· Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks, as well as inspect and analyze.

· Must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another

· While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside.
