About the Role

The Accounting Manager is a senior accounting leader responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting related to the company’s real estate development portfolio, including construction projects, development entities, joint ventures, and construction financing.

This role leads the day-to-day development accounting function, manages a team of three professionals, and partners closely with Development, Construction, Treasury, and senior leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in real estate development accounting, construction draws, job cost reporting, and lender/JV reporting , along with a mindset for improving processes and strengthening internal controls.

This position reports to the VP of Treasury & Accounting .

Key Outcomes

Within the first year, the Development Accounting Manager will:

• Take full ownership of the development accounting function and team

• Independently manage monthly construction draws and lender reporting

• Build strong relationships with banks, JV partners, and internal development and construction teams

• Improve reporting processes and strengthen internal controls

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Collaboration

• Manage and mentor a team of three development accounting professionals

• Serve as a key accounting partner to Development, Construction, Treasury, Legal, and Asset Management

• Act as a primary contact for joint venture partners, lenders, auditors, and consultants

• Lead initiatives to improve accounting processes, reporting quality, and internal controls

• Support special projects and strategic initiatives for the VP of Treasury & Accounting

Development Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for development entities

• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes

• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting packages

• Prepare and deliver financial reports to senior leadership and investment partners

• Analyze development financial data to identify variances, trends, and performance insights

Construction & Development Finance

• Prepare and manage monthly construction loan draws

• Coordinate with general contractors and development teams to compile draw packages

• Ensure compliance with lender, partner, and joint venture reporting requirements

• Oversee job cost reporting and financial tracking for development projects

• Record closings for joint ventures and construction loans

• Maintain predevelopment cost tracking and reporting

Cash Management & Project Support

• Manage weekly cash requirements and draw requests

• Coordinate payment approvals with Accounts Payable and project teams

• Support transaction closings and development project reporting

• Oversee the transition of accounting to property management teams upon project completion

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required

Experience

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience

• Experience in real estate development, construction, or property management accounting

• Prior management or supervisory experience strongly preferred

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting

• Experience with construction draws, job cost accounting, and joint ventures

• Advanced Excel skills

• Experience with ERP systems (Sage Intacct or Sage 300 preferred)

• Experience working in multi-entity organizations with consolidations
