Estimator
Join a leading commercial hvac & plumbing contractor dedicated to delivering high-quality, profitable projects through disciplined estimating and strong industry relationships. As an Estimator, you will play a critical role in the preconstruction phase, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness of all commercial estimates. This individual contributor position is central to the company's revenue generation and margin protection, with a clear focus on converting qualified bid opportunities into executable proposals. The Estimator operates independently from project execution, owning the estimating process from bid selection through formal project handoff, and is empowered to drive continuous improvement in estimating practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a controlled bid pipeline by sourcing opportunities from approved channels and applying formal bid/no-bid criteria.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive estimates for commercial plumbing systems, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
- Maintain up-to-date pricing data, supplier information, and labor productivity assumptions to ensure market-aligned estimates.
- Prepare and submit complete, timely, and professional bid proposals, scope letters, and qualifications.
- Collaborate with Sales leadership on bid strategy, pricing, and pre-bid support, including responding to inquiries and supporting value engineering efforts.
- Ensure all awarded projects are transitioned to operations with clear, standardized handoff documentation, including final estimates, budgets, and risk items.
- Participate in post-job reviews to validate estimating assumptions and drive continuous improvement in accuracy and process.
- Maintain transparent, auditable estimating systems and documentation, supporting cross-training and risk mitigation.
- Uphold ethical standards and compliance by maintaining confidentiality, avoiding conflicts of interest, and adhering to company policies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial plumbing estimating or a closely related construction estimating role.
- Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, materials, and construction processes.
- Proficiency in quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
- Ability to interpret construction documents, specifications, and addenda.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to ethical practices and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
