Job Description

This role focuses on applying high-quality powder coat finishes to a variety of metal parts using a Nordson paint booth. You ensure all items moving through the powder coat booth meet strict quality standards while working efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You collaborate closely with a team, follow established processes, and take pride in delivering a consistent, professional finish on every product.

Responsibilities

  • Paint all parts passing through the powder coat booth while maintaining a consistently high-quality finish.
  • Stand for extended periods during the shift to manually paint parts and operate equipment.
  • Operate all functions of the Nordson powder coat paint booth safely and efficiently.
  • Apply powder coat using proper techniques and a solid working knowledge of powder coat application.
  • Recognize and correctly apply the full range of paint color extensions used in production.
  • Change paint colors quickly, meeting the target of completing a color change in approximately one minute and twenty seconds.
  • Manually paint at a production rate of approximately ten feet per minute while maintaining quality standards.
  • Maintain 5S standards in the department by keeping the work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Communicate ideas, concerns, and issues clearly and in a timely manner to team members and leadership.
  • Work in a team-oriented manner, supporting coworkers and contributing to a positive, collaborative environment.
  • Perform basic paint preparation tasks such as masking, taping, and metal sanding as needed.
  • Use hand tools, grinders, and sanding equipment to prepare surfaces for powder coating.
  • Read and interpret prints to understand job requirements and ensure correct finishing specifications.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of steel toe boots and safety glasses.
  • Maintain a dependable and reliable work schedule, including working 10-hour days during peak periods.
  • Take ownership of the work by inspecting finished products and ensuring they meet high-quality standards before completion.
Essential Skills
  • Previous powder coat experience preferred, with hands-on exposure to powder coat application processes.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge to navigate production or equipment-related systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints to ensure correct colors, finishes, and specifications.
  • Ability to operate all functions of a Nordson powder coat paint booth.
  • Capability to stand and paint parts for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to recognize and correctly identify paint color extensions.
  • Experience or ability in painting, paint preparation, and general painter tasks.
  • Skills in masking and taping to protect surfaces during the coating process.
  • Experience with metal sanding, sanding, and use of grinders and hand tools.
  • Flexibility to work 10-hour days over a 4–6-month period as needed.
  • Strong sense of ownership and pride in delivering a high-quality product.
  • Reliable and dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality.
  • Effective communication skills to share ideas and issues promptly.
  • Commitment to maintaining 5S standards and a clean, organized workspace.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior paint preparation experience, including masking, taping, and surface preparation, is preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or metal industry environment is beneficial.
  • Comfort using hand tools, grinders, and sanding equipment for metal finishing.
  • Ability to adapt to changing production demands and schedules.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing environment within the metal industry, working alongside approximately 60 other employees. You work a day shift schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime available as needed. The facility is a clean, organized production setting that follows 5S principles and emphasizes safety and quality. You will regularly handle metal parts and operate powder coating equipment, including a Nordson paint booth, along with hand tools, grinders, and sanding equipment. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel toe boots and safety glasses, and you follow all safety protocols to ensure a secure work area. The dress code is typical for a manufacturing environment, focusing on safety, practicality, and readiness for hands-on work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
