Commercial Construction Superintendent
Location: Houston, Texas
Compensation: $80,000–$130,000 base salary, depending on experience
Bonus: Annual discretionary bonus
Vehicle Allowance: $600–$800 per month, plus gas card/reimbursement
Our client, an established commercial general contractor with more than 20 years in business, is seeking a Commercial Construction Superintendent to oversee retail and commercial construction projects throughout the Houston market. This individual will be responsible for managing day-to-day field operations, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope. The ideal candidate is a strong field leader who takes ownership of their projects, solves problems quickly, and can effectively communicate with project managers, subcontractors, clients, and internal operations teams.
Key Responsibilities- Manage all daily construction activities at the project site.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, inspections, and project sequencing.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Maintain project schedules and identify potential delays before they impact completion.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure construction meets project specifications and company quality standards.
- Enforce site safety requirements and maintain an organized, professional jobsite.
- Conduct regular subcontractor and project coordination meetings.
- Communicate project progress, challenges, and schedule updates to project managers and operations leadership.
- Review RFIs, submittals, change orders, and field documentation.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and internal project teams.
- Travel occasionally to support projects in Texas or Central Florida.
- Previous experience as a Commercial Construction Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- At least two years of retail construction experience strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage subcontractors and daily field operations.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of construction software, including Bluebeam, Autodesk, or similar platforms.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain schedules and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel when required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Experience with concrete placement and finishing.
- Knowledge of tilt-wall, concrete block, and metal-frame construction.
- Experience managing ground-up commercial or retail projects.
- College degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Base salary of $80,000–$130,000, depending on experience.
