Are you ready to move the world forward? Apply now. This position report to and performs work for the Brenham, Texas site but works on-site at our Houston facility, Valmont-United Galvanizing (VUG).
A Brief Summary of This Position The Shipping Supervisor is a first-line Production Supervisor with discipline and drive as essential behavioral traits. Activities include production work, replenishment of inventory, loading, checking orders, preventative maintenance, housekeeping, new-employee orientation as well as various administrative functions including meetings, inventory, production data record keeping, annual evaluations, employee attendance records, corrective action warnings all of which must be completed in accordance with established Valmont processes. The Shipping Supervisor is accountable for quality of output and processing in the assigned area. Focus is on providing on-time accurate products/services to internal and external customers. This is an on-site professional exemption salaried position. Starting pay range (LG39): $76,800 - $95,900 Essential Functions:
- Supervising both direct reporting staff and other team members according to overall company policy
- Maintains authorized staffing levels. When vacancies occur, initiates appropriate documents to get positions filled through internal postings and/or outside hiring. Interviews candidates and, within prescribed guidelines, selects candidates recommended for each position.
- Training /cross-training of employees in new operations and methods
- Ensuring quality inspections of products/services produced
- Producing product/service to predetermined schedules or actual demand
- Coach, mentor and motivate workers to attain a higher degree of performance competency in order to develop staff to maximize potential
- Assist employee set goals and objectives as well as assist staff with work progress
- Monitor staff performance including performance reviews
- Ensure work has been delegated fairly among the team
- Implement procedures to maximize operating efficiency and reduce potential injuries
- Lead, facilitate and promote teams to meet the challenge of continuous improvement
- Attend professional development courses
- Help identify employee training needs
- Other duties as assigned/directed
- This position must maintain an overall acceptable level of performance in meeting the department’s goals and objectives and attain this with a suitable level of employee relations and within the guidelines of the company. The employee must possess technical and human relations skills necessary to train and motivate workers.
- Ensure that standard methods are used. Recommend changes in layout, processes or methods to improve operations and lower costs
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of assigned personnel’s time and production counts
- Report discrepancies in specifications, methods, engineering data, standards, etc. to the corresponding authority
- Develop positive relationships with assigned employees to create pride in operations, housekeeping, safety and other accomplishments. Take action to keep equipment and work area clean.
- Promote a participative productivity climate and encourage assigned employees to submit suggestions for improvement on operations. Implement worthwhile ideas and keep employees informed of status. Keep managers advised of employee requests, complaints, and suggestions and provide prompt feedback” to employees.
- Be ultimately responsible for the implantation of shop safety practices
- Work with HR to keep job descriptions up-to-date and accurate as the job changes in scope and content
- Determine staffing requirements, interview applicants and on-board new hires
- Ensure that monthly safety and department meetings are held and participate in Lean related activities
- Promote cell and team development. Ensure that training is provided to appointed team members and leaders.
- Provide mechanisms to track/chart productivity goals and exercise guidance in productivity improvement
- Remain cognizant of the ever-changing environmental regulations and assure each cell is within compliance. Provide training/information so that there is continuous awareness.
- Maintain records on any first aids, OSHA recordable, lost-time injuries and property damage
- Control orders, preventative maintenance, housekeeping and administrative functions
- Other duties as assigned
- Associate’s degree with seven (7) years relevant experience or (nine) 9 years of relevant experience
- At least two (2) years of supervisory experience
- The ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and job orders
- Strong leadership, problem solving, planning, communication, and motivational skills
- Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
- Forklift operation experience and ability to obtain Valmont standards certification
- Knowledge of environmental safety and EEO requirements
- Judgment and decision-making skills while comparing relative cost and benefit potential
- Deductive reasoning ability to formulate answers to specific questions that make sense
- The ability to motivate, develop and direct people; identify the best person for each task at hand
- Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
- Five (5) years of related work experience and a Bachelor’s degree
- Professional work experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing methodology and tools
- Knowledge of management principles for strategic planning and resource allocation
