- Type of Employment: Full -Time, 40 hours per week.
- Estimate Pay: $38.14 to $43.23/hour.
- Paid Time Off per Year: 80-hours per year, accruing from day of Hire.
- Sick Leave per Year: 56-hours per year, accruing from day of Hire.
- Paid Federal Holidays : Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays.
Working Hours
The Radiological Technician work schedule is Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays with working hours between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, with working hours do not exceed 40 hours per week. Overtime is not authorized.
Summary of Duties
The Mammogram Technologist (MT) provides radiologic mammography services for patient screening and diagnostics in a Federal Medical Facility (FMC). This role involves positioning patients, producing quality radiographs, and ensuring compliance with medical standards and safety procedures. Technologists rely on established protocols and professional judgment with minimal supervision, while being periodically reviewed by supervising physicians and monitored by the Contracting Officers Representative (COR).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology training program (AMA-approved).
- Certified in Mammographic Radiologic Technology.
- Eligible for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT).
- Credentialing file subject to review and approval by the FMC Clinical Director or designee, who grants clinical privileges.
Preferred qualifications and experience include:
- Experience in providing healthcare in a correctional setting
- Additional professional education and certifications
Attire
The contract employee is expected to wear professional clothing that is appropriate to the correctional environment while on duty; business attire or scrub-type uniforms are approved. No articles of clothing worn by the contract employee will be of a khaki tan, khaki green, tan, dark green, gray, orange, or camouflage color or pattern. Footwear will be closed-toe, flat-bottom, and completely cover the feet; fluid resistance and non-slip soles are preferred. Protective vests will be supplied by the institution.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review mammography imaging requests for special instructions; confirm appropriateness per physician orders.
- Perform digital breast screening mammograms and educate patients on the procedure, risks, and potential adverse reactions.
- Monitor patient condition, vital signs, and recognize allergic reactions; initiate emergency procedures if necessary, including CPR.
- Conduct imaging procedures: position breasts, adjust compression mechanisms, operate equipment controls, and capture images.
- Maintain image quality by following technical standards, adjusting settings, and retaking images when needed.
- Forward completed studies to FMC staff or licensed radiologist for interpretation.
- Ensure mammography-related policies, procedures, and protocols are up-to-date and accessible to FMC staff.
- Support data collection and quality analysis for patient procedures; assist with quality assurance and improvement efforts tied to imaging accreditation.
- Complete preventive maintenance and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; coordinate necessary repairs and maintain inventory.
- Promote workplace safety by adhering to and enforcing relevant standards and procedures.
- Document all services in alignment with BOP medical record guidelines.
