CVOR Registered Nurse
Career Land Center is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse for a full-time opportunity with a major acute-care hospital serving patients throughout the Houston Bay Area.
The hospital is a 530+ bed facility and a designated Level II Trauma Center, with an accredited cardiovascular program recognized for comprehensive care in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of cardiovascular conditions.
The CVOR RN will play an essential role in providing safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care while supporting cardiovascular surgical procedures. This position is ideal for a skilled Operating Room nurse who is looking to advance their expertise in cardiovascular surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care throughout the perioperative process for cardiovascular surgical patients.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and sterile-field standards during surgical procedures.
- Prepare the operating room and ensure appropriate surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment are available.
- Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate patient preparation and surgical prep requirements for different cardiovascular procedures.
- Perform comprehensive preoperative patient assessments.
- Confirm patient understanding of the planned procedure and address questions or concerns within the nursing scope of practice.
- Participate in and lead the required pre-procedure verification and surgical timeout process .
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, nurses, and other members of the perioperative team.
- Monitor patient safety and respond appropriately to changes in the patient's condition during the surgical experience.
- Serve as a clinical resource and support the broader Surgical Services team when needed.
- Adapt effectively to changing surgical needs, procedures, and patient-care priorities.
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based nursing practices.
- Promote a professional, respectful, and patient-centered environment.
- Maintain accountability for delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality nursing care.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or a valid Multi-State Compact RN license.
- Nurses practicing under a Compact RN license must obtain a Texas RN license within the required timeframe following hire.
- Current BLS certification .
- Current ACLS certification .
- At least one year of licensed RN experience in an acute-care CVOR/OR environment , including experience in Operating Room, Surgery, Surgical Services, or Cardiovascular nursing.
Preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- CNOR certification.
- Previous cardiovascular operating room experience.
- Strong experience with complex surgical procedures and perioperative patient care.
Training Opportunity
Experienced Operating Room nurses who may not yet have direct CVOR experience may also be considered. Seasoned OR RNs with three or more years of relevant experience may be eligible for cross-training into cardiovascular surgery, providing an opportunity to expand their clinical expertise and develop specialized CVOR skills.
Schedule
- Full-time day-shift position.
- Option for four 10-hour shifts or three 12-hour shifts per week, depending on department needs.
- Typical daytime schedule is approximately 7:00 AM–5:00 PM .
- No routine weekend schedule.
- On-call participation is required , generally including approximately one weekend per month and several weekday call assignments each month.
- Schedule and call expectations may vary based on departmental needs.
