Electrician Job Summary:

The Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment onboard an offshore drilling rig. This includes power distribution systems, lighting, motors, control panels, and safety systems. The role ensures all electrical work is conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. The position requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to safe offshore operations.

Electrician Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all rig electrical systems including power generation and distribution systems.

• Troubleshoot electrical faults and conduct inspections of motors, panels, lighting systems, and control devices.

• Maintain, calibrate, and inspect safety-critical electrical equipment such as fire and gas detection systems, alarms, and emergency shutdown systems.

• Assist with the installation and commissioning of new electrical systems or equipment upgrades.

• Maintain detailed logs, records, and reports of electrical maintenance activities.

• Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., ABS, DNV, API, and IEC).

• Work closely with other departments (mechanical, instrumentation, marine) during maintenance and drilling operations.

• Participate in safety drills, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.

• Monitor electrical spare parts inventory and assist in requisitions.

• Support and mentor junior electricians or trainees as needed.

Electrician Position Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required)

• Electrical Trade Certificate or Journeyman License (required)

• CompEx or IECEx certification (preferred)

• Valid BOSIET, HUET, and offshore medical (required)

• STCW Electrical Endorsement (preferred for MODUs)

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an electrician in offshore or heavy industrial settings

• Experience on offshore drilling rigs (jack-ups, semi-submersibles, drillships) strongly preferred

• Familiarity with marine or hazardous area electrical installations
