Assistant Controller

A privately held, family-owned company with approximately $650M in revenue is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its growing accounting team in Houston. The position is open due to continued organic growth, including the addition of a new branch and international joint ventures.

This role reports directly to the VP of Accounting and focuses primarily on domestic accounting operations, financial reporting, and inventory-related accounting . The position works closely with senior leadership, operational managers, and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process , including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, eliminations, and variance analysis

• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reporting

• Analyze financial performance and help develop operational and financial metrics to support business decision-making

• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers

• Support perpetual inventory accounting , including work orders and inventory adjustments

• Maintain the fixed asset database and reconcile fixed assets to the general ledger

• Assist with cash flow reporting and analysis

• Partner with leadership to develop and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies

• Support the company’s annual audit process and external audit relationships

• Assist with accounting and reporting for international subsidiaries and joint ventures

• Collaborate with branch managers and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate reporting and financial transparency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

• 7+ years of accounting experience , including public accounting and/or industry

• Inventory accounting experience required

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP

• CPA preferred but not required if experience is strong

• Experience working within mid- to large-sized organizations (~$500M+ revenue preferred)

• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)

• Experience working with external auditors and financial reporting processes
