Responsible for planning, preparing, reviewing and implementing natural resources conservation activities for assigned state parklands. Duties include, but not limited to: written management plan preparation; GIS support for regionand#8217;s parks and the Natural Resources Program; inventory, monitoring, and protection of sensitive natural resources; and restoration and management of natural habitats. Assists in developing, updating, and implementing natural resource, fire, and other management plans for state parklands within assigned region. Participates in preparation of burn units and implementation of prescribed fire actions. Assists in or conducts reviews for TPWD infrastructure and operational developments and repairs, as well as proposed third party developments affecting assigned state parklands. Assures compliance with TPWD code and policies, Natural Resources Program guidelines, State and Federal Endangered Species laws, and other federal and state environmental regulations. Provides technical assistance, training and staff support to regional or park staff. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelorand#8217;s degree in Wildlife Science, Conservation Science, Ecology, Environmental Science or closely related field.Experience:NRS II:Two years field experience in Natural Resources Management, Conservation Science or closely related field.NRS III:Four years field experience in Natural Resources Management, Conservation Science or closely related field.Licensure:Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driverand#8217;s license;Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a Non-Commercial Political Pesticide Applicators license issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture to include the Aquatic Application certification;Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, the National Wildfire Coordinator Groupand#8217;s (NWCG) Fire Fighter Type II certification;NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and certifications.Physical Requirement:Must be able to pass, within one year of employment, the FFTII moderate duty physical fitness standard (walk 2 miles with 25 lb. pack in 30 minutes or less).NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon meeting and maintaining physical requirements.ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:Experience:NRS II-III:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masterand#8217;s degree in Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Ecological Science or closely related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.
