Craft Precision on Classic Manual Grinders – Skilled Machinist Role in Houston, TX

Join a respected precision machining shop in the 77087 Houston area where craftsmanship meets tradition. Our facility is home to fully manual OD and ID grinders—some dating back to the 1940s and 1950s—requiring true hands-on skill and attention to detail.

Job Highlights:

• Pay: $17–$19 per hour, based on experience

• Shift: Full-time, day shift

• Location: Houston, TX 77087

• Equipment: Fully manual OD/ID grinders (no CNC)

Responsibilities:

• Operate fully manual OD and ID grinding machines to meet exact tolerances

• Accurately read and use OD and ID micrometers

• Dial in machines with indicators within a couple thousandths of an inch

• Handle and machine parts up to 10–12 feet in length

• Perform precision grinding to meet customer specifications

• Maintain a clean, organized workstation and follow safety protocols

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Must be able to read English to understand work order travelers and enclosed part drawings

• Minimum 1 year of manual grinding experience for experienced operators (no CNC)

• Skilled with OD and ID micrometers and precision indicators

• Able to operate jib or overhead cranes for part movement

• High school diploma or GED required for trainee operators

• Trainees must complete a minimum of 4 weeks of in-house training before operating a grinder without supervision, with readiness determined by the instructor

• Trainees will be given the opportunity to purchase required personal hand tools through the company and repay the cost weekly until satisfied
