LABORER (ENTRY LEVEL – PUBLIC WORKS / GROUNDS)

We are seeking an Entry-Level Laborer to assist in maintaining public grounds, streets, and facilities. This position is ideal for dependable individuals looking to start a steady career in municipal public service and willing to learn on the job.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Other related duties may be assigned based on departmental needs.

Typical Responsibilities

• Perform basic manual labor tasks such as raking, shoveling, sweeping, digging, and lifting materials or debris.
• Assist with the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of City streets, parks, and public areas.
• Operate and care for basic tools and equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, weed eaters, shovels, rakes, hand tools).
• Load and unload materials and supplies; assist with preparing job sites for maintenance or repair projects.
• Help set up and take down equipment for City events or projects.
• Follow established safety rules and report any unsafe conditions to a supervisor immediately.
• Work as part of a team under the direction of a Crew Leader or Foreman to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of Public Works operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
• Some experience performing manual labor or outdoor work is helpful, though on-the-job training will be provided .
• Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work (lifting up to 50 lbs).
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License within a reasonable period after hire.
• Reliable attendance and willingness to learn City procedures and safety practices required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Primarily outdoor work; exposure to heat, cold, rain, and various environmental conditions.
• May involve standing, bending, or lifting for extended periods.
• City-issued safety gear and training provided.
