How you'll make an impactJOB DESCRIPTION: ACTUARIAL ANALYST (TX)
Job Location: Brownsville, TX
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Actuarial Analyst will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and
maintenance of prices and a pricing strategy that ensures competitive rates, sustainable profitable
growth, rating consistency, and regulatory compliance. This will be accomplished by utilizing product
sophistication, pricing discipline, and analytical analysis. They will interact with internal actuaries and
actuarial associates and may interact with external actuarial firms.
Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis to assist in the development of pricing levels for
company products. Prepare rate adequacy analysis using actuarial techniques at various levels of
segmentation. Prepare filings to be submitted to regulators and answer questions to secure approval.
Will work to help ensure that rates are properly programmed in the system, conduct various quality
tests, and ensure all carrier rate filings are accurate, complete, and timely submitted.
Will be knowledgeable of all parts of the rating formula; proactively find any system errors and find
short-term and root solutions to any issue.
Will work to gather industry data including competitor pricing (both for auto and additional lines of
business) and pricing strategy.
Prepare loss ratio and premium forecasting analysis for internal use as well as support for reinsurance
placement activities.
Expected to work with queries, databases and reporting software to be able to gather, aggregate and
augment both policy and claims data for proper actuarial analysis. Must create repeatable processes to
maximize efficiency for future analysis. Support regular reporting as needed.
Collaborate with the IT Data Team to on the data needs of the department, share if issues are found and
support corrections or changes.
Will be expected to demonstrate prudent business judgment, good communication skills, strong
analytical skills, and substantive pricing knowledge and expertise.
Will work closely with other company support departments and distribution channels to ensure
objectives are met and research/ changes made are thoroughly communicated.
Expected to sit for and pass actuarial exams in pursuit of an actuarial designation from the Casualty
Actuarial Society.
The pricing analyst will report to the VP, Chief Actuary, Actuarial Pricing
About YouKNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
● 2+ years’ experience with data analytics
● 1+ years’ experience working in a Property & Casualty Actuarial role.
● Passed 1 or more actuarial exams
● University degree in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or
Actuarial Science.
● Highly proficient in Excel & data manipulation software
● Strong working knowledge of programing, data processing, databases and data analytics
software including but not limited to SQL and Python
● Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to condense and present
information in a meaningful format
● Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills.
● Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize workloads and multiple projects
and meet time sensitive deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
● Ability and desire to learn and adapt to a changing environment.
● Self- motivated with an ability to independently formulate solutions and employ and examine
all resources available to implement solutions.
● Must demonstrate professional and ethical business practices, adherence to company standards,
and a commitment to personal and professional development.
PREFERRED:
Predictive Modeling experience in college or work setting
Experience programming in R
Prior actuarial work experience
Experience using Power BI and/or Tableau and Azure Data Factory
