Critical Systems Technician I - Battery
Join a dedicated team in Abilene, TX as a Critical Systems Technician I - Battery, where you will play a key role in supporting the reliability and performance of critical power systems. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience with battery systems related to Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, providing opportunities to learn and grow within a supportive environment. Responsibilities
- Assist with battery replacements and new installations for UPS systems.
- Support preventative and scheduled maintenance of battery systems with minimal disruption to customers.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site during all phases of work.
- Follow operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures to ensure safety and compliance.
- Interact effectively with internal teams and external customers to ensure high-quality service.
- Assist in the warehouse and support other service divisions (such as Switch Gear, Operations, HVAC) as needed.
- Utilize hand tools and general maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Work from schematic diagrams, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Learn to disconnect and connect sealed batteries, build battery racks, and install batteries in critical spaces.
- Enter test readings and collect data for reporting purposes using a laptop computer.
- Gain experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs on DC battery systems.
- Travel approximately 30% or more as required for service assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Services Management.
- Regular and reliable attendance is essential.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of or willingness to learn AC/DC theory, electronic components, and circuitry.
- Ability to safely operate department equipment and use hand tools.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to learn and use digital multimeters, amp clamps, flexible CTs, and battery testing equipment.
- Understanding of or willingness to learn proper use of isolation devices, Arc-Flash suits, and PPE.
- Ability to work from diagrams, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- OSHA 10-hour certification and NFPA-70E Safety Training (or willingness to obtain).
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
