Sr. SQL Server Data Engineer

The Senior SQL Server Data Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our legacy data systems while supporting the organization's migration to a modern data warehouse architecture. This position focuses on enhancing complex ETL processes built on SQL Server stored procedures, implementing robust data validation protocols for medical claims processing, and mentoring junior team members. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in SQL Server development with specific expertise in healthcare data processing, with the ability to bridge the gap between our legacy systems and future state architecture.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Server Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working with complex SQL Server environments, ETL processes, and stored procedure optimization. They should demonstrate expertise in data quality assurance and validation, along with a solid understanding of healthcare claims processing. Proficiency in T-SQL, performance tuning, and data pipeline development is essential. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the stability of our current operations while facilitating a smooth transition to our new data architecture.

- Lead and enhance complex ETL processes built on SQL Server stored procedures
- Audit, optimize, and refactor existing data pipelines for performance and reliability
- Implement data validation protocols to ensure accuracy of medical claims processing
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data issues in production environments
- Establish and enforce robust data validation standards for healthcare data processing
- Create systematic approaches to file specification validation and conformance checking
- Implement auditable processes for data quality assurance in a healthcare environment
- Ensure data handling meets relevant healthcare compliance standards
- Provide hands-on mentoring to junior team members
- Create documentation and knowledge transfer sessions on SQL Server best practices
- Establish coding standards and review processes for the legacy systems
- Collaborate with the migration team to ensure smooth transition to the new architecture
- Build reusable templates and frameworks to improve team productivity
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 8+ years of experience with SQL Server and T-SQL development
- 5+ years specifically focused on ETL processes and data pipeline development
- Extensive experience with stored procedure optimization and complex query tuning
- Strong experience with database performance testing, optimization, and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior developers and improve team capabilities
- Experience with JIRA and agile project management tools
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Outstanding communication and collaboration abilities
- Experience with healthcare claims processing and related data structures
- Knowledge of healthcare data and HIPAA compliance requirements
- Understanding of modern data warehouse architectures
- Experience transitioning from legacy to modern data systems
- Knowledge of data governance in regulated environments
- Experience implementing automated testing for database code
- Previous team leadership experience
- Healthcare analytics industry experience
