Clerical Support Educational Assistant

Job Title: Educational Assistant, Regular Instruction

Pay Grade: Clerical/Paraprofessional

Primary Purpose:

Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED, Valid Texas educational aide certificate; successfully pass a skills assessment test

48 College Hours/ Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word documents

Experience:

Preferred experience working with children, in a public education environment

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with administration of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
• Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
• Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• May perform duties at either elementary or secondary campus.
• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality
• Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

The employee's work is most frequently indoors, but occasionally requires going outdoors in the weather to pass from building to building and occasionally stand outside for periods of time. Some employees may be required to work outdoors in extreme temperature/weather conditions and be exposed to high noise levels (i.e. recess duty). The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
