Academic Coach – Tutor (Part-Time)
Location: Houston and Surrounding Counties
Pay: $25 per hour | Paid Weekly
Schedule: 6–10 hours per week | Availability after 4:00 PM, Monday–Thursday

Openwork is partnering with a youth-focused organization to hire dedicated Part-Time Academic Coach – Tutors who are passionate about making a meaningful difference. This unique opportunity combines academic tutoring with mentorship, supporting students in foster care as they strengthen academic performance and develop the confidence and life skills needed for long-term success.

Program Overview
Academic Coach – Tutors work with adolescents and young adults ages 14–25 who are currently in or transitioning out of foster care. You will provide individualized academic support, mentorship, and guidance as students prepare for graduation, college, and other post-secondary pathways.
Sessions may be conducted in person, virtually, or in a hybrid format , depending on student needs. Paid training is provided prior to placement to ensure your success.
Location & Travel Requirements
This role requires travel throughout Houston, Harris County, and surrounding counties. Candidates must be able to travel to the following zip codes:
77053, 77051, 77061, 77088
Reliable transportation is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring.
- Support students with homework, coursework, and exam preparation.
- Help students develop effective study habits, organization, and time management skills.
- Assist with college and post-secondary planning when appropriate.
- Build positive, professional, and encouraging mentoring relationships.
- Maintain accurate documentation of attendance and academic progress.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with adolescents and young adults ages 14–25 required.
- Background in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or youth development.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and professionalism.
- Proficiency in academic subjects relevant to tutoring support.
- Ability to travel within the service area.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience will be considered.
- Availability after 4:00 PM, Monday–Thursday.
- Commitment of 6–10 hours per week.
Compensation & Training:
- $25 per hour , paid weekly.
- Paid training provided prior to placement.
