Director, Legal Counsel - Employment & Labor

Coppell, TX

We’re looking for bold, entrepreneurial talent ready to help build something extraordinary — and reshape the future of building products distribution.

QXO is a publicly traded company founded by Brad Jacobs with the goal of building the market-leading company in the building products distribution industry. On April 30, 2025, QXO completed its first acquisition: Beacon Building Products, a leading distributor in the sector.

We are building a customer-focused, tech-enabled, and innovation-driven business that will scale rapidly through accretive M&A, organic growth, and greenfield expansion. Our strategy is rooted in delivering exceptional customer experiences, improving operational efficiency, and leveraging data, digital tools, and AI to modernize a historically under-digitized industry.

QXO is seeking a Director, Legal Counsel specializing in Employment and Labor law to support a rapidly growing, acquisition-driven organization, providing guidance on employment practices, compliance, labor relations, and dispute resolution. This role reports to the SVP, Associate General Counsel and partners closely with HR and business leaders to manage legal risk, support union and non-union matters, and help integrate and standardize practices across a dynamic, evolving enterprise.

What you'll do:

  • Advise HR and business leaders on a broad range of employment matters.
  • Assist with internal whistleblower program and investigations related to employee complaints and workplace conduct.
  • Support employment-related litigation, administrative proceedings, and demand letters, including strategy development, budgeting, and settlement negotiations.
  • Draft and update employment-related documentation, including policies and agreements.
  • Provide legal counsel to internal labor and HR teams regarding union-related matters, including collective bargaining, campaigns, and contract interpretation.
  • Assist on labor disputes when necessary, including managing arbitration.
  • Monitor changes in federal and state labor laws impacting unionized and non-unionized workforces.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations including wage & hour, workplace safety, workforce restructuring, restrictive covenants and trade secrets.
  • Identify and mitigate potential legal risks, providing practical guidance tailored to the business.
  • Support internal audits in connection with employment law issues.
  • Conduct employment compliance training programs.
  • Collaborate with HR, Operations, Corporate Functions, and executive leadership to align legal guidance with business objectives.
  • Provide clear, succinct legal advice to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Support integration planning for newly acquired companies, including harmonizing policies and practices.
What you'll bring:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar in the jurisdiction of employment, or eligibility to obtain admission in that jurisdiction.
  • 5–8+ years of relevant labor & employment law experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor/employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience supporting internal labor and HR teams with labor negotiations, grievance/arbitration matters, and/or NLRB proceedings preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently with risk tolerance calibration and operational execution.
  • Collaborative, business-oriented mindset.
What you'll earn

  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • PTO, company holidays, and parental leave
  • Paid training and certifications
  • Legal assistance and identity protection
  • Pet insurance
  • Employee assistance program (EAP)
