Manufacturing Test Engineer

Base Power Company
Austin, TX

Our mission at Base is to fix the power grid and enable affordable and reliable electricity for all. To do that, we are building America’s Next-Generation Power Company; the first engineering-led, technology-focused, R&D-driven electricity company. We are a team of tenacious engineers, operators, and creatives who have solved hard problems and are here to do it again.

Base is seeking a Test Engineer to facilitate the deployment, sustaining, and improvement of automated manufacturing test systems developed in-house for the worldwide production of battery backup systems. As a member of our team, you will ensure the products developed by the team meet world-class expectations and ensure success of the overall project. You must have a genuine passion for engineering and thrive working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead uptime (HW reliability, software faults, maintenance schedules, etc.), cycle time and FPY improvements on manufacturing test equipment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the manufacturing test equipment meets and exceeds expectations. Understand shortcomings when expectations are not met.

  • Perform preemptive data analysis and voice of the customer (VOC) discussions to understand challenges with manufacturing test equipment post deployment, and advocate for solutions that align with both equipment and production goals.

  • Understand engineering first principles of test equipment and have a system level grasp of operations to serve as a key contact for the design team and site operations.

  • Build and validate test equipment, then deploy to production lines at contract manufacturers and internally, while verifying tester documentation to ensure a seamless handoff to production.

  • Provide ongoing troubleshooting support for these testers after deployment.

  • Support equipment troubleshooting and qualification during development and ramp-up of manufacturing equipment.

Required Skills / Qualifications :

  • Exposure to a wide variety of test and automation systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition, safety, and I/O devices (i.e., pogo-pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current and power meters, PLCs, etc.)

  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.

  • Ability to read and understand software code (e.g., Test stand, LabVIEW, Python, Golang, C, C++).

  • Experience with CAN bus communications and ability to interpret traces.

  • Basic proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Allen-Bradley/Siemens).

  • Effective at summarizing/presenting data in a manner that is easily digestible to various technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

If you’re passionate about tackling one of the most critical challenges of our time, now is the time to join us. Together, we can usher in a new era of American energy abundance by developing the hardware, software, and deployment operations that make it possible.

Our Values :

We’re building a winning culture, and we’re looking for people who are up for the challenge. These are the values we expect you to embrace from day one:

  • In-Person Work : We work full-time in the office. There is no hybrid or remote work.

  • Challenge Assumptions : We’re not here to do things the way they’ve always been done. We look for people who question the status quo and improve broken systems. We are guided by principles, not rules.

  • Operate with Urgency : Speed matters. We focus on what’s essential, make fast progress, and iterate quickly. Execution drives learning, and learning drives impact. Always have a bias for action.

  • Give & Seek Feedback : We value intellectual honesty. We expect you to challenge ideas (even your own), give direct feedback, and receive it with humility.

  • Deliver : We are high achievers with a drive to win. We take end-to-end accountability for seeing our work through and delivering on our responsibilities.

  • Think Like an Owner : We are all owners of the business. We use our time and resources wisely and take personal responsibility for our impact on the bottom line.

  • Be Opinionated : Great people make decisions with imperfect information. Eliminate murky ownership and drive towards decisions.

  • Bring the Intensity : This is not a 9-to-5 job. We are building something hard, and that requires real commitment.
