Process Engineer (Hybrid Schedule)

This position is eligible for our traditional (8-hour) M-F hybrid work schedule: In-the-office Monday – Wednesday and remote Thursday – Friday.

The primary duties of this role are as follows:
The Engineer – Pipeline (Process Engineer) is responsible for providing analytical and technical expertise to support the process design, engineering, operation, and construction of natural gas processing facilities in accordance with government regulations, industry codes and standards, Company codes and standards, and applicable process safety criteria. The position will support existing natural gas processing assets and associated brownfield projects to expand processing capabilities and/or improve operational performance and reliability.
- Provide troubleshooting, optimization, and reliability support to operations with process simulation tools and operational understanding.
- Develop project design bases and feed studies for proposed Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and capital projects.
- Assist with developing, monitoring, and implementing capital project estimates.
- Review, maintain, and update Process Safety Information (PSI) including but not limited to Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Heat & Material Balances, Process Simulations, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Cause & Effect Matrices (C&E), Consequences of Deviation (COD), Pressure Relief Valve Calculations, and Maximum Intended Inventory (MII).
- Perform detailed sizing, design, and specification of all major equipment within gas processing facilities including, but not limited to, the following: compression, heat exchangers, pumps, towers, separators, heaters, control valves, and PSVs.
- Perform and/or validate relief valve and flare system sizing/evaluations.
- Review and provide feedback on equipment drawings, vessel calculations, and construction drawings.
- Model and evaluate gas plants to suggest efficiency and debottlenecking projects.
- Initiate and manage optimization review projects to enhance safety, run time, and/or operating income.
- Provide technical support for startups, troubleshooting, and plant turnarounds.
- Prepare and coordinate engineering reports, calculations, studies, and presentations.
- Participate in baseline, revalidation, and project PHA/HAZOP studies as necessary for both new and existing facilities.
- Support facility internal/external Process Safety Management (PSM) audits.
- Participate in completion of Management of Change (MOC) requirements.
- Assist EHS personnel with environmental permit requirements including air emissions, storage, and proper disposal of waste.
- Develop and update process and equipment specifications and standards.
- Explore, evaluate, and introduce new technologies to enhance safety, reliability, and performance; network with industry groups, technical committees, and suppliers.
- Work with Company and non-company personnel, take direction from manager(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules, and adhere to work schedules.
- Act as a Company liaison between project management, operations, and third party engineering contractors to ensure facility and equipment purchases are meeting the proper design requirements.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university. Mechanical Engineering degree may be considered with applicable process engineering work experience.
Minimum Requirements/Skills/Experience:
- 10 years of experience in design, construction, or operation of natural gas processing facilities.
- Proficient in the use of process modeling applications (e.g. BR&E ProMax, Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Flare System Analyzer, Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating, etc.).
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve in the field and remotely.
- Experience with design, economic evaluation, and optimization of both new and existing natural gas processing facilities.
- Experience with process facility instrumentation, controls, and automation.
- Ability to develop, read, and interpret mechanical diagrams.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interface with a diverse range of personnel with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.
- Strong customer focus in dealing with Project Management, Business Development, Operations, Contractors, Suppliers and other internal and external groups.
- Thorough understanding of the following midstream processes:
- Glycol Dehydration
- Solid Desiccant Dehydration
- Compression
- Joule-Thomson Refrigeration
- Closed Loop Refrigeration Systems
- Stabilization
- Fractionation
- Cryogenic Turboexpander Plants
- Acid Gas Removal Systems
- Liquid Storage, Transfer, and Unloading/Loading
- Utility Systems (e.g. heat medium, fuel gas, steam, instrument air, etc.)
- Functional knowledge and understanding of ASME B31.3, ASME Section VII Div 1, API 520/521, and other RAGAGEP standards and regulations related to process engineering facility design, construction, and operation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience with third party equipment manufacturer sizing software applicable to the gas processing industry.
- Onsite facility commissioning and operational troubleshooting.
- Professional Engineer (PE) Certification.
- Experience with Microsoft Project.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Plant3D or CADWorks.
- Familiarity with and understanding of the following standards: OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management (PSM) of Highly Hazardous Chemicals and EPA 40CFR Part 68 Risk Management Plan (RMP).
Work Conditions:
- Must be willing and able to work in a field and corporate environment.
- Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
- Primary facility location of support is in Sheridan, Tx. and job location will either be primary Houston corporate office with 50% time spent at facility or 100% officed out of Sheridan, Tx. depending on candidate.
- Other business travel is required and expected to be up to 25% of time throughout the United States including overnight stays for several days.
- Required to carry a cell phone/laptop and respond as needed during working and non-working hours and must be willing and able to support operations 24 hours per day in case of emergencies.
- Climatic conditions are determined by work assignments and may include winter conditions with frequent snow or extreme summer heat depending upon geographic location.
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs/ladders, negotiate uneven surfaces, and comfortably work on top of process equipment.
- Exposure to smells and fumes associated with refined petroleum products.
- Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, working around heavy equipment, and negotiating rough terrain including areas of loose rock.
