AWS Cloud Data Migration Engineer:

Total Required Experience in Years: 12%2B Years

Mode of Work: Hybrid (Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of Austin, TX)

The AWS Cloud Data Migration Engineer will lead the migration of Oracle workloads from legacy on-premises environments to AWS using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS). This role is responsible for designing scalable cloud migration architectures, implementing ETL/ELT pipelines, developing automation, and supporting hybrid cloud modernization initiatives. The engineer will build secure AWS infrastructure, optimize migration strategies, and ensure minimal downtime through comprehensive migration, cutover, and rollback planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement Oracle-to-AWS migration solutions using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) .

  • Build migration architectures supporting:

    • Full Load

    • Change Data Capture (CDC)

    • Batch Data Ingestion

    • Real-Time Streaming

  • Design and deploy AWS cloud infrastructure.

  • Configure and manage:

    • VPCs

    • Subnets

    • Route Tables

    • Security Groups

    • VPN Connections

    • AWS Direct Connect

  • Develop and manage cloud resources using:

    • EC2

    • RDS

    • S3

    • IAM

    • Lambda

  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using:

    • Terraform

    • AWS CloudFormation

  • Develop ETL/ELT data integration processes for cloud migration.

  • Create migration, cutover, rollback, and disaster recovery plans.

  • Automate migration and operational processes using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

  • Configure monitoring, alerting, and logging using:

    • AWS CloudWatch

    • AWS CloudTrail

  • Analyze business requirements and recommend cloud migration strategies.

  • Develop migration documentation, technical designs, and operational runbooks.

  • Support hybrid cloud connectivity between AWS and on-premises environments.

  • Collaborate with architects, infrastructure teams, developers, and business stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support enterprise cloud modernization initiatives.

  • Optimize migration performance, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot migration and infrastructure issues.

  • Maintain migration documentation and operational procedures.

  • Participate in architecture reviews and technical planning sessions.

  • Support after-hours migration activities when required.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years of IT experience supporting technology solution design, development, deployment, or delivery.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) for Oracle migrations.

  • Strong experience with:

    • Oracle Database

    • AWS Cloud

    • Cloud Migration

  • Experience implementing:

    • Full Load Migrations

    • Change Data Capture (CDC)

    • Batch Processing

    • Real-Time Streaming

  • Strong AWS networking experience including:

    • VPC

    • Subnets

    • Routing

    • Security Groups

    • VPN

    • Direct Connect

  • Experience with AWS services:

    • EC2

    • RDS

    • S3

    • IAM

    • Lambda

  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools:

    • Terraform

    • CloudFormation

  • Experience with ETL/ELT processes and cloud data integration.

  • Strong scripting skills using:

    • Python

    • Bash

    • PowerShell

  • Experience configuring:

    • AWS CloudWatch

    • AWS CloudTrail

  • Experience developing migration, cutover, rollback, and downtime minimization strategies.

  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud and legacy system modernization projects.

Preferred Skills:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect.

  • AWS Certified Database Specialty.

  • Experience working in public-sector or state-government environments.

  • Experience with enterprise cloud transformation projects.

  • Knowledge of cloud security and governance best practices.

  • Experience optimizing AWS infrastructure costs and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale AWS cloud migration projects.

  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture and hybrid infrastructure.

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cloud Computing, or a related field.

  • Master\'s degree preferred.

Certifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Preferred

  • AWS Certified Database Specialty Preferred

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Preferred

  • AWS Certified Developer Associate Preferred

  • Terraform Associate Certification Preferred
