About the role, Your Impact:
Baxter & Woodman, Inc. is seeking a Construction Engineer I for our Cedar Park, Texas office, who will provide technical support for engineering and construction projects, primarily from an office environment. This role focuses on preparing, reviewing, and organizing project documentation including reports, submittals, engineering data, and construction records. The Construction Engineer I
will also perform periodic site visits to observe construction activities, document progress, and support field staff. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, proficient with Microsoft Office applications, and comfortable working with engineering documentation and digital plan sets.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Prepare, edit, and format engineering construction reports, technical memoranda, and field documentation.
- Maintain project logs including RFIs, submittals, pay applications, change orders, and correspondence.
- Review contractor submittals for completeness and accuracy before forwarding to engineering staff.
- Organize and maintain digital project files in accordance with company/owner standards.
- Assist with assembling bid packages, project closeout documents, and record drawings.
- Use Bluebeam to review, annotate, and compare plan sets and specifications.
- Assist engineers in checking construction drawings for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Help track revisions, addenda, and updated construction documents.
- Visit construction sites periodically (Approximately 10%) to assist with:
- Documenting construction progress
- Taking photos and updating daily logs
- Observing materials, equipment, and installations
- Verifying quantities for payment
- Communicate field observations clearly to project engineers and stakeholders.
- Ensure field visits comply with safety standards and PPE requirements.
- Create spreadsheets, charts, and logs using Microsoft Excel.
- Track project quantities, construction progress, and schedules.
- Compile supporting data for monthly pay estimates and contractor invoices.
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, inspectors, and owner representatives regarding documentation needs.
- Support meeting preparation including agendas, presentations, sign-in sheets, and technical exhibits.
- Assist with PowerPoint presentations for progress meetings or internal reporting.
Education Requirement:
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
Must-haves, what you will bring:
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite:
- Word (report writing, formatting, templates)
- Excel (data entry, formulas, charts, tables)
- PowerPoint (slides, visuals, meeting materials)
- Proficiency in Bluebeam for PDF markup and plan set review.
- Experience with Revit or other CAD/BIM software (viewing and basic navigation).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize large volumes of technical information.
- Detail-oriented and able to work independently.
- Basic understanding of construction terminology and processes.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel for site visits as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with construction inspection practices.
- Knowledge of project management or document control software (e.g., SharePoint, Procore, Submittal Exchange).
Compensation: The pay range for this role is $74,000 to $77,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
