Job Summary:
This role requires very good Vertex product knowledge (Vertex O Series Sales Tax, Use Tax & Communication Tax) and knowledge of how Vertex applications connect with host applications. This position is responsible for all phases of a Vertex O Series Tax Engine configuration & maintenance. This includes planning, understanding client requirements, application configuration, System configuration, testing, knowledge transfer, and development of custom documentation. Work with client contacts to understand business, tax, and technical requirements. Work with Development team to deliver projects on time. This role requires deep expertise in Vertex platform capabilities, advanced programming skills, microservices architecture. The Senior consultant will lead customization efforts, develop microservices for integration and automation, and collaborate closely with tax, finance, and IT stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of complex Vertex customizations, including tax calculation logic, data mappings, and workflow automation.
Architect, develop, and maintain microservices-based solutions to enhance Vertex integrations and automate tax processes.
Translate detailed tax and business requirements into scalable, efficient, and compliant Vertex and microservices technical solutions.
Design and implement integrations between Vertex and ERP systems (Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Vertex accelerator), focusing on customization, microservices orchestration, and optimized data flows.
Design of complex Vertex customizations, including tax calculation logic, data mappings, and workflow automation.
Translate detailed tax and business requirements into scalable, efficient, and compliant Vertex solutions.
Troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical issues related to Vertex customizations, microservices, and integrations.
Assist development team with integration of microservices & vertex tax engine.
Collaborate with clients, solution architects and business analysts to refine requirements.
Document complex customization workflows, technical specifications, and support procedures.
Stay abreast of Vertex product enhancements, tax regulation changes, best practices, and industry trends.
Participate actively in deployment, upgrade, and change management activities, ensuring minimal disruption.
Document / Validate the changes using Vertex GUI & API Calls.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
Deep expertise in Vertex tax software customization, especially with Vertex O Series and Vertex Cloud.
8+ years of Tax Technology experience, with at least 3 years focused on Vertex development and customization.
Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying microservices architectures using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, or related frameworks.
Experience with Azure Devops.
Deep expertise in Vertex tax software customization, especially with Vertex O Series and Vertex Cloud.
Advanced proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, Java spring boot, JavaScript, and/or Python.
Strong experience integrating Vertex solutions with ERP systems (Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Vertex Accelerator), emphasizing customization and complex data flows.
In-depth understanding of indirect tax concepts and compliance requirements.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
Excellent communication skills to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
Expert knowledge of Web Services, Java, and XML, RESTful API technologies.
Maven 3.x, Spring Boot Microservices (2.x and 3.x), Eclipse, JFrog, Docker images, GitHub, ECO, Jenkins, SoapUI
Expert knowledge of systems and databases.
Desired Skills:
- Experience working in Agile or DevOps environments.
- Knowledge of global tax regulations and their impact on solution design.
- Experience with cloud-native development, containerization, and orchestration platforms.
- Familiarity with automation tools, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Vertex certification or equivalent advanced training preferred.
