Application Software Engineer
About the role
As an Application Software Engineer at Aalo Atomics, you’ll design and build internal tools that power our manufacturing workflows—from materials tracking and quality assurance to digital work instructions and performance analytics. You’ll partner with mechanical, electrical, and nuclear engineers to ensure the software supports the physical build process from concept through deployment.
You will have ownership over the full lifecycle of the software you develop: understanding user needs, architecting solutions, writing code, shipping applications, and iterating based on feedback. This is a high-impact role where your work will directly contribute to building safe, reliable nuclear systems.
What you'll do
- Design and develop internal applications for engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineers to understand their workflows and build tailored solutions
- Develop software tools for managing complex data streams, part lifecycle tracking, and test data analysis
- Own projects from idea to deployment: architecture, implementation, testing, and maintenance
- Contribute to code reviews and design discussions to ensure maintainable and robust systems
- Help define best practices for application reliability, performance, and security
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field
- OR 2+ years of professional software development experience
- Experience in full stack application development
- Proficiency with C or Rust and Python
- Familiarity with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL
Preferred
- Experience developing internal tools or manufacturing-facing applications
- Strong understanding of web frameworks and service-oriented architectures
- Front-end experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or Angular)
- Familiarity with Linux-based development environments and version control tools like Git
- Experience with CI/CD practices, testing, and deployment automation
- Passion for building software that interacts with physical systems or hardware
- Comfort working in a regulated or safety-critical environment is a plus (not required)
