Certifying Scientist

Labcorp is seeking a Certifying Scientist to join our team in Houston, TX .

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 5:00pm – 1:30am, some overtime required

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform GC/MS and LC/MS certification in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and supervisor guidance.
• Review and interpret all data from screening, SVTs and confirmatory GC/MS and LC/MS chromatographic data and all associated quality control, calibration and instrument data.
• Understand and follow quality procedures and protocols for security and confidentiality.
• Review and follow chain of custody procedures with accuracy and consistency. Verify accuracy of all chain of custody and specimen documentation and sign where necessary.
• Release all results for:
  • Negative specimens
  • Negative and Dilute
  • Rejected Specimens
  • Positive Drugs
  • Invalid
  • Adulterated
  • Substituted
  • Positive and Dilute
  • Retests
  • Quantitative Results
  • D & L methamphetamine results
• Understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures and protocols as directed.
• Understand and comply with all laboratory and safety policies.
• Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
• 2 years or more of pertinent laboratory experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology

Additional Job Standards

• Prior chromatography and/or mass spectrometry experience
• Previous Certifying Scientist and Toxicology experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including written, verbal, and listening skills
• Excellent research and problem resolution skills
• Able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Work effectively in fast paced high volume environment
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
