Description/Notes:

The Deputy Superintendent for Learning Services, under the supervision of the Superintendent of Schools, shall be responsible for educational programs of the schools of the district, and for oversight of the departments within Learning Services.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/License: Master’s degree in education or business Administration or equivalent and doctorate degree preferred.

Principal experience required. Prior central office experience in a supervisory role required. Principal Certificate required. Superintendent certificate preferred. Special

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Provides direction, and support in the development, training, and monitoring of the implementation of district curriculum. Ensures the coordination of efforts among the Learning Services leadership teams. Remains informed of state and national level activities that impact on the work of the district, i.e., state testing, accountability and legislative issues while ensuring compliance with federal and state law and State Board of Education rules. Directly supervises the Assistant Superintendents for Learning Services. Provides leadership and indirect supervision to all departments within Learning Services including participation in the principal professional learning communities (PLCs). Reviews various data points to determine schools needing targeted support. Evaluates lead administrators within the department and serves as reviewing officers for evaluation of various other campus administrators/professionals. Maintains status reports and tracking of activities related to the District Improvement Plan and the Board-Superintendent Goals. Facilitate the department review of the plan. Develop and interpret board policies, procedures, and guidelines as necessary. Represents the Superintendent and the District before school and community groups and governmental bodies as requested. Attend all meetings of the Board of Trustees unless excused by the Superintendent. Provides comprehensive oversight and guidance to campus leadership. Oversee the operations and activities to ensure campuses function in accordance with state and district policies, administration guidelines, and sound practices. Monitors the results of student assessment to articulate and interpret educational goals and objectives for the district, administration guidelines, and sound practices. Ensures that curriculum implementation and management at the campus level includes long and short-range planning and is responsive to national, state, and local initiatives. Initiates, implements, monitors, and evaluates strategies which improve educational experience for military family members. Promotes and facilitates a culture of high academic achievement across all campuses. Initiates, implements, monitors, and evaluates strategies aimed at ensuring the district is responsive to the community and parents. Initiates, implements, monitors, and evaluates strategies aimed at ensuring student transitions between and across campuses is seamless and student-centered. Writes and delivers presentations to the Board of Trustees or Superintendent regarding policies and practices associated with campus leadership. Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises assigned employees in the Human Resources Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Phone systems, and peripherals. Posture/Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear, to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching. Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over). Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. District-wide travel to multiple campuses, as assigned. Possible travel outside of the district. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional work during the weekends and evenings for special school functions. May work outside with extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and humidity extremes, regular exposure to noise and computer monitors. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; emotional control under stress.
