Senior Java Full Stack Developer

The Senior Java Full Stack Developer will lead the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise-class applications for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). This position involves both front-end and server-side web service development using modern frameworks and technologies. The developer will contribute to converting SOAP-based services to RESTful APIs, implementing responsive single-page applications (SPAs) with Angular, and supporting production operations in a JBoss Enterprise Application Platform environment. The role requires advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and document Java-based applications using JEE technologies.

• Perform front-end development using Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design principles.

• Convert legacy SOAP-based web services to RESTful services and implement new REST APIs.

• Develop secure web services using JWT, OAuth, and related authentication and authorization standards.

• Collaborate with business analysts and technical teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

• Create detailed technical documentation and design specifications.

• Participate in peer code reviews, design walkthroughs, and test planning sessions.

• Analyze and resolve application defects, configuration, and performance issues.

• Support system deployment, testing, and production maintenance.

• Apply best practices in software design for scalability, performance, and maintainability.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in front-end/UI development using JEE platforms.

• 8+ years of experience in server-side/web service development on the JEE platform.

• 8+ years of experience implementing SPAs, including at least 4 years with Angular and TypeScript.

• 8+ years of experience implementing RESTful web services with secure protocols (JWT, OAuth).

• Proficiency in Java, JEE, REST/SOAP, HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, CSS3, Bootstrap, SASS, Spring, JSP, Struts, JSON, XML, Maven, and OpenAPI v3.

• Experience integrating web services into Angular or React-based SPAs.

• Demonstrated ability to implement responsive, client-facing applications.

• Experience developing reusable, testable modules and components.

• Proven ability to apply best practices in application design, scalability, and performance optimization.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience with JBoss or IBM WebSphere Application Server 8 or later.

• 3+ years of experience with Agile methodologies (preferably Scrum).

• 2+ years of experience developing for mobile or tablet platforms.

• May require occasional work on weekends, evenings, or holidays with pre-approval.

• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays
