SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to provide leadership and direction to the management of Grace Place Staff. Responsibilities include the health and well-being of the citizens, the training and development of the staff, overseeing budgets, social and spiritual activities, and safety procedures. Provides "On-call" support in the event of an emergency involving a facility, staff, family, or any other as deemed a need for intervention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Develops and implements plans for the effective operation of BiG's residentials homes including the establishment of policies and procedures for their operation, training staff, overseeing the finances, and scheduling staff as needed.
  1. Provides and/or supervises "on-call" support, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, in the event of a citizen's health of behavioral emergency. Timely reports and/or informs the appropriate directors of "on-call" incidents or activities on a daily basis.
  1. Coordinates activities of the residential program with other departments such as Administrative, Medical and Citizen Development to interface on issues involving the needs of the citizens. Interacts with the citizens on a daily basis and keeps abreast of their individual nutritional, medical, and emotional needs.
  1. Directs and coordinates the selection, training, and scheduling of the residential staff and assures adequate staff is always available to support the citizen's direct care needs on a seven day per week, 24 hour per day schedule.
  1. Assesses staff performance and effectiveness by conducting on-going training needs analysis. Conducts or causes the presentation of development programs to raise the overall level of professionalism among the staff.
  1. Establishes performance standards and goals for the residential staff and assures timely performance evaluations are completed and meaningful assessments are communicated to every staff member each year.
  1. Reviews and analyzes the department's overall budget and the budget of each individual home. With the assistance of the VP of Finance & Administration, seeks to identify economies in each home through effective spot purchasing, ordering, and the allocating of resources.
  1. Conducts regular walk through inspections of the homes to assure the homes are clean, the facilities are well maintained, and each is in compliance with all DHS regulations and safety standards. Immediately addresses cleanliness or safety issues with the home teacher or properly reports maintenance issues for repair.
  1. Provides accurate, complete, and timely documentation of behavior interventions, medical emergencies, and staff performance issues, and the action taken to appropriately respond to the situation.
  2. Maintain an ongoing relationship with family and guardians through regular contact to report activities, issues or respond to questions related to their health and well-being.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Brookwood's policies and procedures, and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include training and developing employees; planning, scheduling, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complains and resolving problems.

The incumbent must have strong personal characteristics including the ability to teach, coach, and communicate. Must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with parents, citizens, and staff. Prefer a residential professional with a strong sense of commitment and a passion for the "mission" of BiG.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Should have a four year college or university degree; three to five years related experience working for a major health care provider supervising a large staff of exempt and nonexempt professionals; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have strong management and organizational skills to plan and schedule a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week program.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, interpret, and communicate documents such as safety procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write comprehensive reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and motivate employees at all levels in the Community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must have strong math knowledge and possess the ability to read and understand complex accounting reports and statements associated with managing an annual department budget of 5-6 million dollars.

REASONING ABILITY

Must have the ability to apply common sense and sound judgment to a wide variety of problems involving citizen and staff issues, facilities operation, and emergency situations. Must be able to comprehend the maintenance, safety issues and hazards others routinely overlook.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk through the homes, talk with citizens and staff, and be a good listener. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
