Job Title: Accounts Receivable Manager

Location: Houston, TX

Compensation: $115,000 – $120,000 / year

Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable Manager to lead and oversee the accounts receivable function for our growing organization. This role is responsible for managing billing, cash application, collections, and credit processes while ensuring timely and accurate revenue recognition and cash flow. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of AR and accounting principles, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with sales, operations, and finance teams. This position plays a key role in optimizing working capital, improving DSO, and supporting month-end close and audit activities.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Oversight

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the accounts receivable team, including billing, cash applications, and collections staff
  • Establish performance metrics, review KPIs, and ensure timely, accurate completion of AR activities

Billing & Revenue Support

  • Oversee customer billing processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contractual terms
  • Partner with sales and operations to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure timely invoicing

Cash Application & Reconciliations

  • Oversee the application of customer payments (ACH, wire, checks, lockbox, credit cards)
  • Review and approve AR subledger, customer account, and bank reconciliations

Collections & Credit Management

  • Lead collections strategy to reduce past-due balances and improve days sales outstanding (DSO)
  • Establish and enforce credit policies, approve customer credit limits, and manage credit risk

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as escalation point for complex customer disputes, short payments, and chargebacks
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Lead AR-related month-end and year-end close activities, including revenue-related accruals, bad debt reserves, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare and analyze AR aging, DSO trends, cash flow forecasts, and management reports

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of AR operations
  • Partner with finance leadership on ERP optimization, automation initiatives, and system implementations

Audit & Compliance

  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, reconciliations, and support schedules
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounts receivable or accounting experience, including people management
  • Experience managing billing, cash applications, and collections in a high-volume or complex environment
  • Strong knowledge of AR processes, revenue recognition support, credit policies, and internal controls
  • ERP system experience required (Dynamics preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills required (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail
