Accompanist (Part-Time)
Schedule:
- Monday: 12:30 PM – 1:10 PM
- Tuesday: 11:45 AM – 12:45 PM, 2:45 PM – 3:25 PM
- Wednesday: 11:00 AM – 11:40 AM
- Thursday: 2:45 PM – 3:25 PM
- Friday: 12:30 PM – 1:55 PM
Position Purpose:
The Accompanist is responsible for providing musical accompaniment for eurythmy classes, dance classes, school performances, music classes, and other events within the Waldorf school community. The role involves supporting students and faculty in rehearsals and performances by playing piano, keyboard, or other instruments as required. The Accompanist plays a key role in fostering an artistic and musical environment that complements the Waldorf education philosophy, which emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and the integration of music into the academic curriculum.
The Accompanist's responsibilities:
- Accompany eurythmy classes, dance classes, instrumental ensembles, and performances as needed, providing live musical support during rehearsals and events.
- Work closely with the Music Director, and Eurythmy teacher, and Dance teacher to support the curriculum, especially in performance preparations for school festivals, seasonal celebrations, and concerts.
- Provide accompaniment for performances and other interdisciplinary arts projects that involve music.
- Provide accompaniment for school assemblies, parent meetings, and other events where live music is required.
- Be available for rehearsals and performances, ensuring that students have consistent support throughout the process.
- Collaborate with individual students or small groups, particularly for student performances, recitals, and auditions.
- Arrange or adapt music when necessary, ensuring that the musical pieces are suitable for the instruments and voices involved, as well as the unique pedagogical approach of Waldorf education.
- Assist with tuning and maintenance of school instruments when required, ensuring the readiness of instruments for use in rehearsals and performances.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and cooperative environment for students and teachers alike, contributing to the harmonious atmosphere of the school’s music and arts programs.
- Assist with school events and fundraising activities.
Professional Requirements:
- Proficiency in playing piano, ukulele, keyboard, or other relevant instruments (experience with both classical and contemporary styles is beneficial).
- Experience in accompanying music ensembles, choirs, or instrumental groups, particularly in an educational or performance setting.
- Ability to read and interpret music fluently, with the ability to adapt musical arrangements to suit the needs of the performers.
- Understanding of Waldorf education principles, particularly as they relate to the role of music in child development.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and school leadership.
- A passion for music and a commitment to fostering creativity, artistic expression, and emotional growth in children.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
