Pediatric Ophthalmologist (MD/DO)
Position Summary
The Pediatric Ophthalmologist provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for eye disorders affecting infants, children, and adolescents. This role focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of congenital, developmental, and acquired pediatric eye conditions, delivering evidence-based, family-centered care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage pediatric patients with ocular and visual disorders
- Diagnose and treat conditions such as strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataracts, pediatric glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, and refractive disorders
- Perform pediatric ophthalmic surgical procedures consistent with training and privileges
- Provide medical management and longitudinal follow-up care for acute and chronic pediatric eye conditions
- Perform and interpret ophthalmic diagnostic testing and imaging appropriate for pediatric patients
- Collaborate with pediatricians, neonatologists, neurologists, geneticists, and other specialists
- Participate in care of premature infants and NICU consultations, as applicable
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and visual development
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives
- Supervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, or clinical staff as applicable
- Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency program
- Completion of an accredited pediatric ophthalmology fellowship
- Board-eligible or board-certified in Ophthalmology
- Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
- DEA registration or eligibility

Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
- Manual dexterity for pediatric examinations and surgical procedures
- Visual acuity sufficient for detailed ophthalmic evaluation and microsurgery
Requirements
Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.
