Director of Hope Children’s Center (Preschool and After-School Program)
Summary Hope Children's Center (HCC), a ministry of Hope Presbyterian Church in Northwest Austin, is seeking an experienced early childhood leader to serve as its next Director. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $52,000 to $55,000 per year, plus benefits. HCC is a Texas Rising Star accredited program currently holding a 3-star certification. Since 1978, the center has served families in the Austin community through preschool, after school, and summer programs for children ages 18 months through elementary school. The center operates Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. The Director provides overall leadership and daily operation of the center, ensuring programs run safely, effectively, and in full compliance with Texas Child Care Licensing standards and Texas Rising Star accreditation requirements. The Director leads and supports teaching staff, cultivates relationships with families, and works in collaboration with the Chaplain for Children and Family Ministries, reporting to the Senior Pastor of Hope Presbyterian Church. - Support the mission of Hope Presbyterian Church and the ministry of Hope Children's Center.
- Collaborate with church leadership and the Chaplain to strengthen relationships between the church and the childcare ministry.
- Provide leadership for all aspects of the center including preschool, after school, and summer programs.
- Ensure daily operations run smoothly and in full compliance with Texas Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards.
- Maintain all records and operational systems required by state licensing.
- Oversee classroom operations and observe teachers to ensure program quality and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure safe and developmentally appropriate classroom environments.
- Develop strategies to sustain HCC's current 3-star Texas Rising Star rating and pursue future program improvement, striving for a 4-star rating.
- Provide instructional leadership that strengthens classroom teaching practices and supports teachers in delivering high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with Texas Rising Star standards.
- Manage, document, and support staff training and professional development required for TRS participation.
- Coordinate program documentation, classroom observations, and monthly meetings with the TRS mentor.
- Hire, supervise, coach, and evaluate teachers and staff.
- Ensure assignments align with qualifications, training, and classroom needs.
- Provide regular coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Lead staff training prior to the start of each school year.
- Conduct annual staff evaluations.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families.
- Represent HCC positively in the surrounding community.
- Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, email updates, and meetings.
- Conduct tours for prospective families and support enrollment growth.
- Implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Ensure classroom materials, learning environments, and teaching practices align with program goals and accreditation standards.
- Support special events including Meet the Teacher Day, concerts, family events, and community engagement activities.
- Collaborate with the church Financial Administrator regarding payroll, accounts receivable, expenses, and the annual program budget.
- Monitor enrollment and provide regular reporting to church leadership.
- Ensure accurate documentation of attendance, incidents, and required operational records.
- Meet Texas Child Care Licensing requirements for a Child Care Center Director.
- Pass all required background checks.
- Have experience working with preschool or elementary age children in a licensed childcare environment.
- Have knowledge of Texas Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards.
- Demonstrate leadership and supervisory experience in an early childhood education environment.
- Experience as a Director or Assistant Director in a licensed childcare center.
- Experience working within a Texas Rising Star program or similar accreditation system.
- Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
- Experience supervising and coaching teaching staff.
- Experience working in a nonprofit or church related setting.
- Proficiency with common office software and childcare management systems such as Procare.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and participate in classroom environments as needed.
- Experience as a Director or Assistant Director in a licensed childcare center.
- Experience working within a Texas Rising Star program or similar accreditation system.
- Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
- Experience supervising and coaching teaching staff.
- Experience working in a nonprofit or church related setting.
