Mainframe IMS System Programmer
Akkodis is seeking a Mainframe IMS System Programmer for a Contract with a client in Plano, TX. This role requires a highly experienced Mainframe IMS System Programmer with strong mastery in IMS installation, RECON management, and GEN processes (DBD/PSB/ACB) .
Rate Range: $68/hour to $80/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Mainframe IMS System Programmer job responsibilities include:
Install, configure, and maintain IMS subsystems (DB/TM) including IMS Connect, ODBM, IMS Tools, and related components.
Manage RECON datasets, DBRC operations, and GEN processes (DBDGEN, PSBGEN, ACBGEN) to ensure reliable database structure and recovery readiness.
Perform IMS system upgrades, SMP/E maintenance, APAR/PTF application, and ensure compatibility with z/OS, DB2, CICS, and other mainframe subsystems.
Monitor IMS performance, manage logs (OLDS/SLDS), and conduct capacity planning using tools such as OMEGAMON, Mainview, or RMF.
Diagnose and resolve Level 3 IMS issues including system abends, database recovery failures, buffer/log problems, and coordinate with IBM support for complex cases.
Support automation and integration initiatives by developing REXX/JCL scripts, integrating IMS with middleware and monitoring tools, and assisting with DR planning and testing.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum of 8+ years of experience in IMS system programming and z/OS mainframe environments.
Strong hands‑on expertise in IMS installation, RECON management, DBRC operations, and GEN processes (DBD/PSB/ACB).
Proven ability to perform IMS subsystem upgrades, SMP/E maintenance, and performance monitoring while troubleshooting complex IMS database and system issues.
