PLC Automation Technician
Our client in Katy, TX is seeking an experienced PLC Automation Technician to support, maintain, and troubleshoot automation and control systems used in industrial operations. This role ensures the reliable performance of PLCs, HMIs, and related automation equipment in both field and plant environments.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM (1-hour break)
Pay: $28–$30 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation, setup, and maintenance of PLCs and automation control systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair PLC hardware and software issues using platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal (preferred), Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, and Schneider Electric.
- Perform PLC program edits and updates as directed by the Field Supervisor or Engineering team.
- Support configuration, operation, and troubleshooting of Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
- Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on automation systems.
- Assist with commissioning, calibration, and performance testing of equipment at field sites.
- Maintain accurate control system documentation including schematics, wiring descriptions, and troubleshooting guides.
- Perform electrical and mechanical repairs on automation equipment (e.g., sensor replacement, wiring repairs, I/O module changes).
- Identify improvement opportunities related to safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable industry standards.
- Provide on-site technical assistance and help train operations or maintenance staff on control systems.
Qualification Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Electrical/Automation Trade Certificate or Journeyman Certificate required.
- Training or hands-on experience in electrical systems, mechatronics, automation, or control systems.
- 5+ years of experience working with PLC-controlled systems in an industrial environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of PLC programming concepts (ladder logic, function block, structured text).
- Experience with Siemens TIA Portal or similar automation platforms is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control diagrams.
- Familiarity with sensors, actuators, VFDs, and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for electrical and control systems.
- Clear communication skills and strong documentation habits.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, often under time-sensitive conditions.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and diagnostic software.
Physical Demands:
- Occasional standing, walking, sitting, bending, and use of hand tools.
- Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment:
- Primarily a warehouse or shop setting, with occasional client site visits.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and airborne particles may occur.
- Travel by automobile and air may be required to support field operations.
