Spray Technician

MalaceHR is seeking a Spray Technician to support grounds maintenance operations at a large college campus. This position is responsible for the safe and effective application of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and other approved treatments across campus grounds, landscaping, athletic fields, parking lots, and approximately 16 miles of sidewalks and pedestrian pathways .

The ideal candidate will possess a valid Pesticide Applicator Technician License and have experience identifying weeds, pests, and turf-related issues while maintaining compliance with all state, federal, and campus environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Apply herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and other approved treatments in accordance with label requirements and safety regulations.
• Maintain campus sidewalks, curbs, parking lots, landscaped areas, athletic fields, and other outdoor spaces through targeted vegetation and pest control programs.
• Inspect grounds and landscaping to identify weed growth, invasive species, insects, diseases, and other conditions requiring treatment.
• Operate backpack sprayers, ride-on sprayers, utility vehicles, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, locations treated, weather conditions, and product usage.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable EPA, state, local, and campus regulations regarding pesticide application and storage.
• Mix, handle, store, and dispose of chemicals safely and according to manufacturer specifications.
• Assist with general grounds maintenance activities including weed removal, landscaping support, seasonal cleanup, and snow response as needed.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on spray equipment and application tools.
• Maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Respond to service requests and work orders related to campus grounds conditions.

Qualifications

Required

• Valid Pesticide Applicator Technician License (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
• Knowledge of pesticide application techniques, chemical handling procedures, and environmental safety practices.
• Ability to read and understand pesticide labels, SDS sheets, and application requirements.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to walk long distances and work across a large campus environment, including approximately 16 miles of sidewalks and pathways.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

Preferred

• Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, turf management, golf course maintenance, or campus facilities operations.
• State Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
• Experience with athletic field or institutional grounds maintenance.
• Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) programs.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators and protective clothing when necessary.
