Research Scientist

The Research Scientist role is a full-time, hands-on research position within Dr. Michael Wang's laboratory in the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The Research Scientist will contribute to a well-funded research program focused on lymphoma and myeloma, working closely with faculty and laboratory personnel to advance high-impact translational and experimental research. The Research Scientist is expected to independently perform, coordinate, and advance research projects while maintaining strong collaboration within the laboratory and department.

The ideal candidate for the Research Scientist role is a highly motivated and collaborative scientist with strong experimental research experience, ideally supported by a doctoral degree. This individual brings demonstrated expertise in molecular biology, animal models, and drug development-related research, along with the ability to work independently with minimal faculty guidance. The successful Research Scientist has experience coordinating projects, mentoring laboratory staff, and contributing to publications and scientific presentations, with a strong commitment to rigorous, high-quality research.

Salary: $68,500 - $85,500 - $102,500

Responsibilities
Research Support
• Determine specific research goals and objectives and evaluate data to advance projects
• Revise experimental techniques and approaches to resolve scientific problems
• Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and actively participate in research projects
• Compile, write, and submit scientific reports to leadership
• Present research findings and prepare manuscripts for publication

Laboratory Leadership and Training
• Assign and review work performed by laboratory personnel supporting projects
• Plan and supervise training of technicians and laboratory staff
• Ensure proper laboratory techniques, equipment use, and safety procedures

Scientific Expertise and Innovation
• Apply advanced expertise in in vitro molecular biology, including tissue culture, gene expression analysis, and knockdown experiments
• Conduct and oversee transgenic and experimental mouse work, including colony management and xenograft studies
• Provide expertise in drug quality control and development
• Develop innovative approaches, methodologies, and technologies to support research goals

Scientific Engagement and Representation
• Represent the laboratory at scientific conferences and professional meetings
• Review scientific findings and scholarly articles relevant to the field
• Contribute specialized knowledge critical to the success of funded research initiatives

EDUCATION
  • Required: Master's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
  • Preferred: PhD Natural sciences or

    Medical Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: Four years Experimental or scientific work or two

    years Experimental or scientific work with medical degree
  • Required: No experience required with PhD.
