Position Overview
The Senior Construction Scheduler serves as the scheduling subject matter expert for complex commercial construction projects, providing leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all scheduling activities. This role is responsible for developing, validating, and maintaining project schedules throughout the lifecycle of construction projects, while partnering closely with executive leadership, preconstruction teams, project managers, and field operations.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing schedules for large, complex projects, with particular expertise in K-12 educational construction. This position plays a critical role in ensuring schedules are realistic, actionable, and utilized as a key management tool to drive project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead scheduling efforts for large, complex, and high-profile construction projects from preconstruction through project completion.
- Develop, review, and maintain baseline project schedules for pursuits, preconstruction activities, and active construction projects.
- Serve as the primary scheduling advisor to executive leadership, project teams, and field operations personnel.
- Provide enterprise-level oversight of construction scheduling across multiple concurrent projects.
- Review, audit, and validate schedules developed by project teams to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
- Establish and maintain company-wide scheduling procedures, templates, best practices, and reporting standards.
- Analyze schedule risks and develop mitigation, recovery, and acceleration strategies when needed.
- Participate in preconstruction meetings with subcontractors and stakeholders to validate sequencing, durations, logistics, and project constraints.
- Ensure schedules align with contract requirements, project phasing plans, and owner expectations.
- Track critical path activities, schedule delays, and productivity trends while recommending corrective actions.
- Develop and oversee short-term schedules, pull plans, and look-ahead schedules to support field execution.
- Prepare and review time impact analyses, recovery schedules, and schedule documentation associated with change events or extension requests.
- Generate executive-level schedule reports, including critical path analysis, progress updates, and forecasting.
- Mentor and train schedulers, project managers, superintendents, and project engineers on scheduling methodologies and best practices.
- Lead post-project schedule reviews and incorporate lessons learned into future planning efforts.
- Support long-term scheduling strategy, staffing initiatives, and scheduling technology improvements.
- Promote and uphold established construction processes, procedures, and operational standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; equivalent construction experience will be considered.
- 10+ years of construction operations or scheduling experience with direct responsibility for developing and managing complex project schedules.
- Significant experience serving as a Senior Scheduler on K-12 educational construction projects strongly preferred.
- Expert-level understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Project.
- Strong knowledge of construction sequencing across all major trades and building systems.
- Experience supporting occupied campus construction, phased construction programs, and educational facility projects preferred.
- Proven ability to perform schedule audits, risk analysis, delay analysis, and recovery planning.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, specifications, phasing requirements, and milestone management.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring project teams and influencing stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate complex schedule impacts and recommendations clearly to executives, owners, subcontractors, and project teams.
- Proficiency with construction management tools, plan review platforms, and project tracking systems.
- Forward-thinking approach to problem solving and project planning.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Certifications
- OSHA 30 Certification required.
- Scheduling or project controls certifications preferred, including:
- PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)
- Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP)
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
